glover1I’m embarassed to say that I didn’t know who Bruce Glover was at the time that he was announced to be a guest at the Hollywood Show on January 12, 2013. He was there as part of a reunion of James Bond related co-stars, girls, and villians – but I was mostly intrigued that he is the father of the iconic and unusual Crispin Glover. I imagined that he might be equally strange and thus put home on my list of celebrities to meet and greet. In fact, he was the first one I encountered at the show, and thus the first celebrity of 2013.

The meeting itself was rather unmemorable. He was nice enough although I could sense a glint of wildness just beneath his surface. I could see the resemblence to his son Crispin, but held back asking him anything about him. I’m sure he gets that all the time and is likely tired of it.

But what was impressive was his list of credits that I found after our meeting. I just went ahead and went with the flow and got a shot of him as Mr. Wint (along with the character’s ‘lover’ Mr. Kidd – played by Putter Smith, who had temporarily been slated to be at the show as well) from the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. His other credits spanned the last 45 years, all the way back to appearances in such sitcoms as Car 54, Where Are You?, My Favorite Martian, Barney Miller, and The Facts of Life,  TV dramas and westerns such as Mission: Impossible, Bonanza, and The Mod Squad, and films such as Chinatown and Ghost World.

I gathered that it was rather rare to see Mr. Glover out in public, so I shelled out the $30 for the autograph and photo-op combo. I know that I’ll be glad I did one day.

  1. Nice. Obviously an encounter with a unique Hollywood icon. His roles on “Mission: Impossible” are what I’ll always remember him for. Thanks for sharing!
