Brad's Musings and Meanderings

random acts of quoting

"...But where would I find such a man? Why am I asking you." - Hedley Lamarr, "Blazing Saddles"

ody4.jpgBecause I have only sparse memories of this 1975 trip to St. Pete Beach, Florida, these photos mean more to me as a memory jogger of my 1977 Florida trip to the exact same location. That said location was the Odyssey, a tourist destination known for the white sands and surf of the Gulf of Mexico. I fondly remember running about on its grounds during our 1977 trip. What I don’t remember (but it doesn’t surprise me) was that I evidently loved standing on the beach and feeding the sea gulls as indicated in the photo above right and the one below.

Below is a great shot of the pool area where we spent a good amount of time – as you will see in the next posting. This shot was taken from our balcony. On the other side of the pool were bungalows that were also part of the motel complex. We never stayed in these. Near the kids’ pool end, you can see Dottie and Robby.

This next shot is taken from the opposite angle of the pool toward the motel. The coolest thing in this shot is the old Pepsi machine. The second coolest is you can see my Mom on the second floor, giving you a good idea what room we stayed in. Below this photo is a close-up of my Mom and me – about ready to slip through the railing and plunge to the cement ground below.

If you’ve enjoyed these shots purely for the sake of seeing the old 1970’s slides of the motel, perhaps you will like this final shot of a neighboring motel (or possibly part of the Odyssey itself). In the distant background is the Odyssey itself. This icon of my youth, where I lived for two weeks of my life, no longer exists.
