chi.jpgMom, Bob, Ashleigh, and I took a short weekend trek up to visit with Denise, Aaron, and of course, baby Adam last Saturday, January 27. Just before leaving, Eric Hubble – who I had not spoken with in 20 years – returned my call, so we arranged to meet that afternoon. After we had a couple of drinks in a local pub, Eric took me back to Denise’s, met my family, and took off. Most of us headed out to a Chinese buffet. Aaron was out playing poker, so he had to join us later. The food was great and as always, I ate way more than I -or any human, really- ever should. But, mmm, was it good.

I began snapping photos of our group at the table and took an obligatory shot of the attractive Chinese waitress (she looked like Kumiko, the love interest in Karate Kid Part II). After I showed her the picture, she asked if she could hold Adam and get a picture with him. Who was I to refuse? Hence, Adam’s first picture with a waitress at a Chinese restaurant. Hopefully, this will be the first of many. Denise got soup on her red shirt.

chi6.jpgAfter stuffing ourselves, we returned to Denise’s to vegetate, stare at the TV (we couldn’t hear it, since Denise has trouble listening to more than .00000001 decibels), and take turns passing Adam back and forth. For the most part, he is a perpetually happy little boy.

Soon came time for him to be fed his rice. He had only been eating it for a couple of days at that point and was just getting used to the taste, contorting his face in every possible grimace after each spoonful. But he eventually gulped it down. According to Denise and Aaron, he seemed to enjoy it more than he had up until now. In any case, he put on a good show for us. We all got a kick out of Bumbo, the African baby seat in which he sat during the meal.

chi10.jpgAshleigh headed off to spend the night at Briana’s and I retired to bed at about 10:30 drifting off to some Squirrel Nut Zippers music. I heard Adam crying during the night, but it only woke me up momentarily each time. But when 5:30am rolled around, I was up for good. I slipped downstairs and worked the crossword puzzle in the newspaper, listening to Stymie make noises like a screech owl from downstairs.

chi4.jpgWhen everyone finally got up, Mom and Denise cooked up a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs. We mostly lazed around all morning (in fact I never even took a shower or changed out of my pajamas), playing with Adam until lunchtime. Briana and Billy came in and visited with us for a while when they brought Ashleigh back. For lunch I ate half of Aaron’s sushi and then some Taco Bell and enchiladas and spicy Dorito’s and Coca-Cola. It was the unhealthiest two days of eating I’ve had since our Mexican Cruise in 1996. Thanks Denise. Just kidding.

After the unceremonious stuffing, we loaded up the twin bed that we were taking home to outfit our spare room, and headed home in Bob’s truck. The temperature had dropped to about 20 degrees.

Adam sure is getting cuter and cuter, and I’m excited to have him with us when we go to Myrtle Beach in the Spring.

One Response to “Adam Gets Held in a Chinese Resaurant…and Other Adventures in Westerville”

  1. That was a fun weekend; I only wish it could have lasted longer!! You’ll have to come back and spend more time with the three of us. Adam is growing and learning new tricks every day.

And, by the way, I can’t help it if my entire family is going deaf! I keep the television loud enough for those with exceptional hearing to hear.
