Brad's Musings and Meanderings

"Yum Yum, eat 'em up!" - Bumbo, "The Kid From Borneo"

gregbradyEarlier this year, I had the unique opportunity to meet three of the cast member kids (plus Cousin Oliver) from one of my favorite campy sitcoms The Brady Bunch. Little did I know that just a few months later, all of these same Brady actors plus an additional one would be appearing at the (newly christened) Hollywood Show in Burbank on Saturday, July 18, 2009. That additional one was Barry Williams who portrayed elder brother, ultra-hip, really groovy and happening-in-a-far-out-way Greg Brady.

I had nearly had the opportunity to meet Barry about seventeen years ago when he was doing a book signing in Kettering for his book Growing Up Brady. However I got there too late to get a number for the line, so I merely sent my book up with someone else. Still I got to see him in all his Gregness glory.

My only real goal here was to get a photo taken with him. I had already had his book signed, got an autograph through the mail, one through purchase, and one from Bob who grabbed him at the TV Land Awards. Like when they had appeared in Chicago, the deal was that if you bought a photo you got a free picture with them. If you bought an autograph of all of them, you got a cast shot with all of them. Kind of a bummer, that I had settled for three (plus Cousin Oliver; he’s always a post-script) when here I could have gotten four.

I approached Barry to see if he’d pose with me, but he maintained that they were raising money for an animal shelter, so I succumbed and bought yet another photo to have him sign and he gladly posed with me – beaming that patented Greg smile, which was now located directly below that patented Greg afro. How could anyone not like this Greg?
