"...But where would I find such a man? Why am I asking you." - Hedley Lamarr, "Blazing Saddles"

buffy3Ahem. Once you’ve unpeeled your eyes from the alluring photo of Kristy Swanson at right, we can move on here. Okay. So yeah, Kristy is hot and has posed in Playboy, yada yada yada – but her biggest claim to fame was that she portrayed teenage monster killer Buffy Summers in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that started it all – and although I own the DVD, I have been in no rush to actually watch it as I know it will not compare to the TV series that later followed. But in my warped world of TV bliss, that’s not all she has done…

Kristy has appeared in a number of notable movies including Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (“Thank you, Simone”), Hot Shots!, Higher Learning, and Big Daddy – as well as numerous TV appearances in shows such as Just Shoot Me, Growing Pains, and Valerie. But ironically, out of all of these interesting performance, I must revert back to my all-time favorite TV show It’s Your Move to find my favorite role of hers.

She played the role of Laura, Matt’s love interest in the Love Letters episode of the series. One of my favorite lines in the show is when Julie prompts her with a cheer by saying “Richie, Richie, he’s our man, if he can’t do it…” – to which Kristy Swanson dimly replies “we’ll get somebody else to do it?”

I promised myself that no matter how dumb I seemed, I was going to mention this obscure TV appearance to her when I met up with her at the Hollywood Show on July 18, 2009. And so that is what I did. She politely smiled and said that she remembered and enjoyed her role in the show. I told her that I bet “she gets asked about that all the time”, tongue in cheek of course (my own, not hers unfortunately). Then I purchased the signed photo above, posed for a picture with her, and was on my merry way.

And with the It’s Your Move memory still ringing in her head, I’m sure she was thinking…why can’t you just play baseball like other kids…

Celebrities of the 2009 Hollywood Show will continue

One Response to “The First Buffy. And of Course Laura.”

  1. I am distracted by the first photo…don’t ask me why either. 😛
