lucy-02I absolutely adore Peanuts. Not the salty snack food – although I am fond of those too – but the Charles Schultz series of comic strips and animated cartoons. So I was naturally excited to find out that Pamelyn Ferdin, who was the voice of Lucy Van Pelt in three of the Peanuts shows (two TV specials: It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown and Play It Again Charlie Brown – and one of my favorite movies A Boy Named Charlie Brown) was going to be appearing at the Chiller Theatre Show on April 18, 2009.

Although Peanuts is most notable to me, Pamelyn Ferdin made quite a few notable appearances in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, most notably as Felix Unger’s daughter Edna in The Odd Couple. She also had guest spots in The Monkees, Green Acres, Star Trek, and The Brady Bunch (where she again appeared as a girl name Lucy) – just to name a few.

As the 1970’s came to a close, so did Pamelyn Ferdin’s acting career. As an adult she came somewhat of an animal activist, arrested at least twice for demonstrating, and even being interviewed on the PETA episode of Penn & Teller: Bullshit!

Pamelyn couldn’t have been nicer when I got the chance to meet her at Chiller. I picked up the great shot above from A Boy Named Charlie Brown and asked her to inscribe it as Lucy Van Pelt. She was impressed that I knew the last name of the character. She suggested the other inscription. I also told her that it was unfortunate (for me) that she had not been the voice of Lucy in A Charlie Brown Christmas, as I already had a great cast shot signed by three gentlemen involved with the production. And as I generally always do when a female celebrity genuinely captivates me, I told her how attractive she was.

And then she pulled the football away.
