I’m not much of a fan of the zombie-genre, but I know a classic cult flick when I see one. Night of the Living Dead is one such example. This was filmed in 1968 in black and white on a shoestring budget by newcomer film director George Romero. He would go on to direct a plethora of such films, some landing in the ballpark of success, others wallowing in left field. Among the better titles that he directed were Creepshow, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and The Dark Half. He even has a cameo appearance as an FBI agent in The Silence of the Lambs.
When he made his appearance at the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 18, 2009, he was accompanied by a whole slew of cast and crew members from the film. They were all in an isolated room and of course, Romero was the main draw. I felt sorry for anyone having to wait in the long line to get in the room for, let’s say, zombie #3.
I hadn’t actually seen the film in many years, so I asked one of the handlers which photos they recommended and they pointed out the behind-the-scenes color shot above. It was one of the rare surviving color shots taken on the set. It was $25 and Romero posed for free.
