winters2.jpgI continued down my It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World autograph collecting path by sending a request to Jonathan Winters on August 14, 1985. I had a sneaking suspicion that I would have success with Mr. Winters, as he had replied to Carl Ahlm with a signed photo and actually agreed to be an honorary member of our Sons of the Desert tent in Springfield. The attraction of having him as a member was that he was originally from Springfield, Ohio. In fact, the funeral service for George’s Dad was actually held in a former home of Jonathan Winters.

On September 24, I received my response. He had sent me a nice signed 8 x 10…and acknowledged that I was “a fellow Buckeye.”

  1. Did you know that your Grandma Murphy’s mother, your great Grandma Murlin use to babysit for Jonathan Winters? He must have lived in Dayton when he was a very little boy (I think around age 4.)

  2. I have a vague recollection of being told that one time. Thanks for reminding me!
