"What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?" - Taggart, "Blazing Saddles"

im805.jpgI previously wrote about my first visit with Ira and Mildred Cline in the posting found here. That was my first visit, and this one from 1980 – if I am calculating correctly – was my third. This excursion was taken during our June trip to Siesta Key. Darlene, who was on this vacation with us, was beginning to feel the pangs of homesickness, so decided to stay back at our condo for some alone-time. Here are a few photos from our day with Ira and Mildred.

I can’t remember anything about this specific visit, except for the fact that, as always, I enjoyed it. Ira amazed me with all of the talents he had, among them playing the organ. After he would regale us with some tunes, I would always take my turn regaling everyone with some discordant sound effects. And I could be pulling this out of thin air, but I seem to recall homemade ice-cream, although that could have come from any of our visits.

Finally, I recall that Uncle Ira was insistent that we not take the Sunshine Skyway Bridge back to our condominium. It had partially collapsed in May and traffic was routed both ways over the remaining bridge. My Dad ignored his caution and took it anyway. We arrived to our destination safely, but I never forget looking out the car window at the bridge which just simply ended and imagining the cars that fell off of it.
