"Hey dude, do you wanna go on a date for a beer with a dork? Well, I've got one right here - it's me!" - Briana Pond

ab3.jpgWednesday, March 21st was a special day for us in Myrtle Beach. It was Ashleigh’s 17th birthday. I still am in shock that I now have a daughter old enough to legally get into rated R movies! I had purchased a Funfetti cake at the store and my Mom baked it that morning. Then after eating lunch in the condo and snapping our family photos in front of the pond, we headed out for a day of fun and frolicking in the sunny city.

Both My Gang and the Eds all travelled to Broadway at the Beach, always a fun destination. Our first stop was in the toy store, naturally. With three kids along, where else would we go? Ashleigh posed for the picture at top: her mug and a birthday mug. Adam and I showed our cuteness in the two photos below.

As I was saying…

Eventually, we broke away from the Eds and continued to shop. I stopped by the unimpressive KISS Coffeehouse again, just as I did last year. I still didn’t buy anything inside. Nearby, there was a pretty cool 70’s and 80’s shop that we swung into. They actually had a Loudness shirt for sale – but I didn’t get it. I did, however, purchase a nice green “What’s Happening!!” t-shirt (that I am currently wearing as I type this). We also poked around the Disney store, where I got a good deal on an Incredibles and a Mickey Mouse t-shirt. And, oh yes, after the Disney Store, we found a shop that was giving away free Italian Ices in celebration of the first day of Spring. I finally broke away from the other members of My Gang and browsed alone, listening to Morphine on my iPod all the while. I ended my day by purchasing a cool book displaying tons of great optical illusions.

After walking around Broadway at the Beach, we had all sufficiently worked up enough of an appetite to go to Miyabi’s, the Japanese Steakhouse. This time, I endulged in getting a variety of sushi appetizers along with my hibachi-cooked shrimp and chicken. I had  turned my family onto Japanese steakhouses about ten years ago, so now we must visit one every time we are in Myrtle Beach. Oddly, no one seems all that interested in going to one when we’re here at home!

Okay, now I’m ready for the birthday party

Although we were all nice and plump from the meal, that didn’t stop us from endulging in ice cream and cake in celebration of Ashleigh’s birthday (after ample resting time, of course). Although Ashleigh was more interested in watching “America’s Next Top Model,” she did take a few minutes to shred through her presents. I had gotten her a new 30GB iPod and brought it along to surprise her. Although I tried to convince her that she wasn’t going to be getting it, I don’t think I had her completely fooled. Teens.

One Response to “Ashleigh’s 17th in Myrtle Beach”

  1. I think that Miyabi’s is the same place in which I was accosted by the chef with a metal bowl and some shrimp tails. He never apologized. He never even stopped cooking. He just hit me and kept on cooking. Now there’s a dedicated chef.
