In her day, Margaret O’Brien was one of the most popular child actors of the silver screen. She began her career in an uncredited role in Babes On Broadway in 1941 at the age of four. Margaret’s career reached its zenith in 1943 and 1944 when she starred in such classics as Madame Curie, Jane Eyre, and her most famous role, Meet Me in St. Louis with Judy Garland. The most famous scene comes when Garland sings Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas to young Margaret.

I’ve had the chance to meet Margaret O’Brien on two occasions, but on neither did I obtain a signature on the photos seen here. The signed photos seen here came courtesy of my friend Bob who got them for me from appearances that she made at collectors show in the late 1990’s.

The first time I met her was at the Hal Roach Centennial celebration on Catalina Island on Saturday, July 18, 1992. Not knowing who she was as the time, I was advised by Bob that I should get a picture with her…which I did. Unfortunately – and for unknown reasons – the picture came out so washed out that it could have been Ed Asner or Nell Carter in the photo for all you knew.

So naturally when I had the chance to meet her again at the Hollywood Show on Saturday, April 24, 2010, I jumped at the opportunity to get another discernible photo taken with her. Somehow I was able to talk her handler into letting me do this for free. I’m very thankful that I was finally able to get myself a merry little photo with her once and for all.

Now, this is a little bit better
