I really need to watch more James Bond films. So many of the hot Bond girls from these films regularly frequent the autograph shows that I attend and I’d like to have more of an appreciation for them. Lana Wood is one such gal. She portrayed the large-busted Plenty O’Toole in the 1971 Bond flick Diamonds Are Forever. This role came hot on the heels of her appearance in Playboy, a career move of which her older sister Natalie Wood disapproved. Natalie had worked to foster Lana’s career when Lana was a young girl.

This is where my major interest comes in. Although I can’t yet appreciate meeting this Bond girl (namely because I haven’t seen the film yet), I was highly interested in the fact that Lana had portrayed Debbie as a child (Natalie played her as an adult) in the John Ford/John Wayne classic The Searchers, which is one of my very favorite westerns ever. I chose to have her sign the oddly over-sized photo from this film seen below when she appeared at the Chicago Hollywood Celebrity Show on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

This was a great memento. But the thing that I will never forget about Lana Wood was that when I offered to pay her $25 for the combo of getting a signed photo and a picture with her (her listed price was $20 + $10), she actually said “Let’s just make it $20.” This was the first and most likely the last time it has ever been the celebrity who talked me down in price.

Lana Wood, you have a new fan in me – and I’m here to give you plenty o’ credit!
