"I believe you're getting old...and nutty" - Chief Ramsbottom, "Night Owls"

I wasn’t feeling particularly overwhelmed with surprise that Thanksgiving had come around again, but it did seem to sneak up quickly once we had entered the Fall sector of 2010. I played it low key, just hanging around the house alone, watching some 30 Rock, and working on my xtranormal videos (more on that later). Christi had picked Briana the night before and they were staying at my house, but they had all left first thing in the morning to head to Thanksgiving feasts with their Nana and Big Daddy, each with separate meals.

Our family gathering this year was at Jim and Jan’s house in Bellbrook. It was the standard ‘come at 4, eat at 5’ gathering. I had stopped at the store to pick up a bottle of Riesling wine at my Mom’s request, and it was close to 5pm when I got there. I hadn’t eaten a single thing all day, so I immediately dug into the shrimp, peanuts, pumpkin dip, soda pop, and a stupid bowl of M&Ms that kept taunting me. I nearly made the fatal mistake of filling up before dinner was served.

It was typical wonderful fare: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, dinner rolls – plus a huge array of pies and desserts. Mom had brought most of the pies which included pumpkin, pecan, and cherry for Ed. It was a dizzying experience to relish such good food and revel in such good company.

The turnout was big as usual, but we were missing all of Bev & Ed’s kids and grandkids. Also, Darlene and her kids could only stay until about 6pm as they had the Robinson affair brewing at their house. Christi didn’t get the kids there until after 7pm, but it was all good. She stayed and visited with everyone while they were there.

The hosts with the mosts: Jim, Jan, Eric, Nikki, Ben, and Nikki’s boyfriend Mike

In attendance was as follows: Grandpa Murphy, Diana & Tom, Cathy, Debby & Mike, Dan & Natalie and Tori, Mom & Bob, Ashleigh, Briana, and Christi, Denise & Aaron and Adam and Megan, Bryan & Erine, Bev & Ed, Ed’s sister Virginia, Jim & Jan, Ben, Nikki & her boyfriend Mike, Eric, Darlene, Brittney & Doug, Jacob & Lauren, Zac. The Murphy dog Nutmeg, now known unofficially as Meggie, provided additional bonus entertainment.

I left around 8pm, hoping to catch a movie at home, but being too tired to actually focus my eyes on the TV. The weather outside was rapidly dropping and had gone from the 60’s to the 20’s over the next few days.

Winter was on its way along with the holiday preparations that came with December and the Christmas season.

2010 will continue

  2. Great posting and great pictures of everyone. I especially like the picture of Ed and his cherry pie. He expressed to me how much he appreciates Barb making it for him. THANK YOU BARB!
