Our family wrapped up its trilogy of wedding receptions at the Eagles Nest on September 29, 2001. This ‘tradition’ had begun with my wedding to Lisa in 1999, continued with my cousin Lori’s wedding in 2000, and was now seeing its third occurrence following my Mom and Bob’s wedding. Several of the key ingredients were once again present. Namely my uncle Jim was manning the DJ station using some of my CDs and the beer was flowing like water at the helm of Ed the bartender. The catering of the buffet was provided by Davidson’s. After the wedding photos were taken, the wedding party made their entrance at the Eagles Nest, where the wedding-goers were already waiting.

Mom and Bob did most of the standard wedding fare: the first dance, the dollar dance, the hokey pokey, the throwing of the bouquet and garter, and the cutting of the cake. Byran delivered a nice toast that started out along the lines of “it’s about time…” And Denise gave a bit of a tear-jerking toast that professed that we actually loved Bob, despite our good-natured ribbing of him.

I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You was the song played for the first dance, which was the song that they first shared a romantic dance when they had met over ten years ago. Bob later missed this trivia question when they were asked on a Newlywed Game style show while on an ocean cruise.

We danced and partied deep into the night, having a blast of a time. Mom and Bob stuck around to help clean up the hall. Denise had arranged for them to go to a motel instead of going home, where Denise and Aaron were staying. They would be heading out the next day for a honeymoon in Gatlinburg.

Clogging? Irish dancing? A Riverdance? Not sure what Debby, Ashleigh, and Denise are up to here.

  1. Yes, we sure knew how to throw a party – and we continue throwing parties year after year in some fashion!

  2. I’m pretty sure Denise was doing the “running man.” It was SOP at the time…
