"Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" - Bluto, "Animal House"

One of my favorite episodes of the classic sitcom Family Ties was the one when Alex’s friend Skippy comes to the realization that he was adopted. In an act of defiance, he inisists that everyone begin calling him by his birth name Baby Boy Doe. The actor who made numerous appearances as Skippy was Marc Price – and in essence, he stole almost every scene he was in. He didn’t do a whole lot on screen outside his role on Family Ties, but he did have the lead in the heavy metal thriller Trick or Treat starring Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne.

I got the chance to meet Marc Price at the Chicago Hollwood Celebrity Show on Saturday, September 25, 2010. As luck would have it, he was doing some stand-up comedy in the area, so this opened the perfect opportunity for him to reunite with his former Family Ties co-stars Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter, who were also appearing at the show.

He was quite a nice guy. We chatted for a while on a number of topics: his stand-up act, the location of Family Ties being in Columbus (which at first was undetermined), how nice of a guy Ozzy was, and I tried to get it out of him as to whether Gene Simmons was an ass. He just smiled. And he actually laughed when I asked him to inscribe my photo with “Baby Boy Doe.”

It was a nice addition to the celebrity show to get a third person from one of my high-ranking favorite sitcoms.

Celebrity encounters from the Fall 2010 Chicago collectors show will continue

  1. I thought he commited suicide? Oh wait, that was Boner from Growing Pains. GP had a way better theme song, I say.
