Outside of her role as Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati, Loni Anderson didn’t do all that much that was noteworthy in the entertainment realm. She has parts in films like The Lonely Guy, A Night at the Roxbury, and the female lead in critical bomb Stroker Ace, alongside her future husband Burt Reynolds. But that role, along with a classic pin-up pose from the 1970’s, ensured that she would remain an icon for more than 30 years – and I was pretty excited to get the chance to meet her at the Hollywood Show in Burbank, California, on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
She had a bit of a hefty fee, with the price break of $40 for an autograph and photo op combo. As I already had purchased a nice signed photo (as seen above) from a dealer at the Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous in 1998, I chose not to buy one of her photos. Instead I had her add her signature a cast shot of WKRP that I had already obtained back in 1998. Bob had gotten this for me when four members of the cast – Gordon Jump, Gary Sandy, Howard Hesseman, and Frank Bonner – did an appearance at one of the Hollywood Collectors Show. I don’t recall how much I paid for all four, but I’m guessing it wasn’t more than Loni cost all her own. But she was a nice gal and looked pretty good for being 65 years old, and I didn’t hesitate to tell her so.
My cast photo has now passed 50% completion and I hope one day I can add the last three.
