"Mother isn't quite herself today." - Norman Bates, "Psycho"

I had bypassed meeting Theresa Russell when she had made appearances at autographs shows that I had attended in the past, but this time I noted that her first major film appearance had been in one of the films of my favorite actor Robert De Niro, The Last Tycoon, so I decided to check out what she was offering up for sale. I’m glad that I did – as it ended up being one of the most rewarding of my celebrity encounters at the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

Theresa did have a great shot of her with Robert De Niro, and this is the photo that I opted to purchase. While she had stepped away from her table, her handler had made me the deal that she wouldn’t charge for a picture with her. As she was signing the photo, she asked me if I wanted her to write the current date on the picture and said “Sure, 2010 will be fine.” Not thinking, she wrote 20/10, and then realizing her mistake tried to correct it, and when that failed, obliterated it by drawing a huge silver heart over it! When she asked how it looked, I said “As long as you’re having fun, that’s all that counts.”

Since she had goofed up the inscription, she asked if I’d like her to do another one, and I asked if I could get a different pose. She agreed, so I got the lovely color photo as seen at the top of the posting. It’s not often in this day and age of autograph collecting that you get an unexpected tw0-for-one.

Theresa Russell, star of such films as Spider-Man 3, The Razor’s Edge, and Wild Things, was attractive, charming, funny, generous, and very nice. I was very thankful that I stopped by her table.

Celebrity encounters of the Fall 2010 Chiller Theatre show will continue
