If you were to go to Google.com and type in “Tan Actor”, who do you supposed would be the number one response both in the Images or the Web entries? If you guessed George Hamilton, then you are as sharp as a gay blade. Mostly that is all the average Joe knows about George Hamilton. I knew just slightly more. I knew that he had portrayed Zorro (and his gay twin brother) in the 1981 comedy Zorro, the Gay Blade. I chose to focus more on the Zorro connection than the tan.

But actually, George Hamilton has had a rather lucrative career (even outside of the George Hamilton Sun Care System and tanning salons), starring in a plethora of films over the last fifty years – from Where the Boys Are to Columbo to Roots to Sextette to The Godfather Part III to Woody Allen’s Hollywood Ending.

It was $35 to get a signed photo along with a photo op, and although I was a little disappointed he wasn’t a bit more tan, I jumped at the opportunity when he appeared as a guest at the Hollywood Show on Saturday, February 12, 2011. Our interaction was limited but he seemed nice enough. He added the Gay Blade quote and put the ‘Z’ mark on my picture. I thought about saying “But in the school, that is how they teach my daughter to draw a Two.” But I didn’t. I just moved on to the next celebrity.
