Michael Rooker has one of those instantly recognizable faces and he’s well-adept at playing about any role. But usually he plays a nut. In fact, after seeing Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, it was hard to believe that he was the same guy who played mild-mannered D.A. assistant Bill Broussard in the Oliver Stone film JFK. He can be seen in films such as Tombstone, Mallrats, and Eight Men Out – and his current job is playing loose cannon zombie survivor Merle Dixon. Naturally when I met him, I had him sign a portrait of him as Henry. My favorite line comes as a result of a bartender asking him “How about those bears?”

Rooker was appearing at the Flashback Weekend Horror Convention in Chicago on Sunday, August 14, 2011. It was because he was roaming the Comic Con across the street the day before, that I overheard someone talking about him being there and the fact that there was another gathering of celebrities across the street. Thus I attended thanks to him.

He was quite like I expected, nice but a wild one. He had constant loud banter going with other celebs including Malcolm McDowell and Scout Taylor-Compton. Since I don’t watch The Walking Dead, I didn’t realize he was in it, so when I declined to pose in front of the Walking Dead display with him, he laughed and said, “Yeah that show sucks anyway.”

It was cool to meet a seasoned actor like Michael Rooker, and even cooler that after paying the $25 for his signed photo, there was no further charge to pose with him for a picture.
