As a big fan and follower of the Academy Awards, there’s just no thrill quite like meeting the recipient of one of the major Oscars. There is no woman alive who could have done a better job at portraying the attractive yet cold Nurse Racthed in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, for which Louise Fletcher won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1975. She has never found a role quite like that one, but she was nominated for an Emmy for her appearance as Christine Bey in one of my all-time favorite dramatic shows Picket Fences.

In addition to the episode for which she was nominated, she also made an appearance in the final episode of Picket Fences. She might also be seen in films such as Two Moon Junction, Aurora Borealis, Cruel Intentions, and as Winn Adami in the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

I got the thrilling chance to meet Louise Fletcher at the Hollywood Show in Burbank on Saturday, October 8, 2011. She was there as part of a mini-reunion with fellow actress from Cuckoo’s Nest, Louisa Moritz and Marya Small. I was glad to plop down the $30 for the signed picture and photo 0p combo. Although she didn’t say very much, I could see that the coldness in her eyes from the film was now replaced by the warmth of a kind lady. The best thing we can do is go on with our daily routine.
