"Bye-bye, baby face!" - Lily, "Our Relations"

I love rewinders. And by ‘rewinders’, I refer to those scenes in movies or television shows that are so funny that you keep rewinding them and watching them over and over again. One of these comes in one of my all-time favorite movies, Back to the Future – and it involves the topic of this posting, Mr. Donald Fullilove. I don’t think describing the scene will do it justice, but there’s this great shot in the film of Michael J. Fox in the soda shop in 1955, and almost un-noticed by the audience is Donald Fullilove as Goldie Wilson – who would eventually become the Mayor of Hill Valley – dancing and gyrating  in the background to the 50’s tune that is playing on the jukebox. Trust me, it’s funny.

And it’s mostly because of this scene that I just had to greet Donald Fullilove when he appeared at the Hollywood Show in Burbank on April 2, 2011. Fullilove would sort-of reprise his role, when he appeared as Goldie Wilson III in Back to the Future Part II. Also of note was that he recently voiced Nurse George in the Pixar animated classic Up.

It turns out that greeting Goldie worked out quite well for me. Being much more interested in getting a photo with him than an autograph, I jumped at the chance to purchase one of his small 4×6 photos instead of an 8×10 – and only paying $10 for it! That kind of money would go far in 1955, but these days there isn’t much at all you can get for it at the Hollywood Show.

But in this case, I got my autograph and a nice photo (or two) with the Mayor Goldie Wilson aka Donald Fullilove. With public service like that, one day he could be Mayor!
