Continuing with our trip through Georgia before the Sons of the Desert Convention…
After our long bus-rides the day before, the last thing that Ashleigh and I wanted to do on Tuesday was get up and get on another bus. And yet, we did just that…this time taking a three-hour trip to historical Savannah, Georgia.
I did want to see this historical town. My cousin Chris and his wife Sarah used to live there and they raved that it was a great town. On arrival, we immediately became immersed in the historical feel and hospitality of the antique town. Arranged in more than twenty city-squares, the town (founded in 1722) boasts the largest National Historic Landmark district in the country.

Ashleigh is shocked
Taking a guided walking tour, we were pointed to the various sites of battles in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War, as well as statues, landmarks, famous homes, and movie locations. The guided tour was all too brief and we were soon given several hours to explore, shop, and eat on our own. Ashleigh and I became separated from our group of friends so we spent the entire time, just the two of us, browsing the knick-knack shops, clothing stores, art galleries, and streets. We chose the un-glamourous resteraunt of Blimpie’s to eat lunch, mostly in an effort to get out of the rain which began at the end of the tour.

After our free time, we reported to the docks of the Savannah river for a riverboat cruise. To continue with the day in Savannah and see photos on the riverboat, click here.
