Just One of the Guys was one of those teen movies of the mid-80’s that didn’t quite rise up to the quality of the John Hughes films of the era, but was still quite fun nonetheless. Considering that the movie poster itself pictures a topless, sexy Joyce Hyser, I think that most adolescent boys were hoping for a bit more raunchiness than the film ended up having, but in the end, the film stayed more accesible to the teen mainstream by keeping a PG-13 rating.

I had had a run-in with the lead actress, Joyce Hyser, in Chicago in 2010. At that time, I was upset that she wouldn’t budge on charging for the photo op with her. When I met her at the Hollywood Show on February 12, 2011, it was a completely different story. This time around the male lead of the film was there with her. Clayton Rohner, who had portrayed Rick was standing at the next table.

I made it a point not to even look at their pricing, but to just offer them each $20 to sign a photo from the film and take a group picture with me. The two actors couldn’t have been nicer in graciously accepting, and I was glad to not have had another bad taste left in my mouth.

Afterall, the film was fun, the girl was hot, and the guy was the type who’d you want to be your friend. They did well to be nice to just one of the fans.
