Brad's Musings and Meanderings

Quentin Tarentino films are somewhat of an acquired taste to be sure, and I happen to be one of those that enjoy them immensely. I found it to be quite cool to get the chance to meet a trio of Tarentino stars at the Hollywood Show on February 12, 2011. I have already discussed Jackie Brown starlet Pam Grier here.  Each of his films has its own unique and artistic merits, and the two-part opus Kill Bill Part 1 and Kill Bill Part 2 were certainly no exception. The remaining two celebs whom I encountered at the show were part of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad from those films.

Sidewinder

Copperhead

But of course to the Bride (aka Beatrix Kiddo), these two were more importantly part of the Death List Five – which is the list of of her former partners and boss whom she has set out to kill. It was cool to meet both of them – Michael Madsen (Budd – or Sidewinder), and Vivica A. Fox (Vernita Green – or Copperhead) – even if their pleasantness in person could at best fall into the lukewarm category.

I had obtained Michael Madsen’s autograph earlier in the decade when my friend Bob picked it up for me at an earlier show. He had signed a Kill Bill still (triple rhyme = 3 points) at that time, so this time I went with a still from Reservoir Dogs, another Tarentino masterpiece. He was talking to his handler about needing to go to an interview and asking where the interviewer was. I responded by saying “I don’t know here he is, but I’m here now.” So he ‘agreed’ to go ahead and charge me the $20 fee and sign my picture and the $10 pose with me.

Vivica A. Fox was a hottie for sure (even at age 46!), and so I snapped a picture of her while she was signing – which she kindly smiled for. Then after she signed her photo for $30, she posed for a photo for free with me holding up the signed photo – which incidentally, I now do quite often as extra insurance of getting at least one good photo with the person. However, when I asked to get a second picture, she declined this request on the basis that I had already taken two pictures of her. C’mon, Cottonhead…and how does this put you out exactly?

So sadly, even though I love the Kill Bill movies, I left with a bit of a sour taste of both of the performers I met from the film that day. The likelihood of meeting any additional members of the Death List Five or the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad is highly unlikely, so I guess I’ll have to be happy with my encounter with these two snakes.

  1. “The likelihood of meeting any additional members of the Death List Five or the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad is highly unlikely…” – wow, I never thought you to be a pessimist…

  2. Yeah, Peter. Bring on Daryl Hannah!

    Aaron

  3. Agreed, Aaron! People meet Daryl Hannah and Lucy Liu every day. Both actresses are still relatively young and in good health. I don’t know why Brad is being so defeatist about them in particular. It is uncharacteristic of him.

  4. Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy? Or are you gonna bite?
    I prefer Reservoir dogs.
Pleace place that information into your pipe and then, if you will, proceed to smoke it.
