"I had a much nicer voice until I ran a nail through it." - Stan Laurel, "The Bohemian Girl"

My friend Bob had informed me that when Sherry Jackson last appeared at a recent Hollywood Show that I didn’t attend, she didn’t have any photos of her from The Danny Thomas Show (aka Make Room for Daddy). I was hoping that she might rectify this during her return engagement at the Hollywood Show on October 8, 2011. Fortunately for all of us she did, and I was able to purchase one for $25. I only went for this one because it was her most iconic sitcom performance; it’s not like she never did anything else of note.

In fact, her filmography is littered with great TV appearances – in such shows as: The Twilight Zone (The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank), Walt Disney’s The Swamp Fox, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Star Trek, My Three Sons, and Batman – the reunion of which explained why she was appearing at the show again so soon after her last visit. Her TV work would go on until 1980, and even included an appearance in Make Room for Granddaddy, the follow-up series from Danny Thomas from 1970. Incidentally, she also starred in four of the Ma and Pa Kettle films in the early 1950’s, as Kettles’ daughter Susie.

So even though I’m not very well-versed on the Make Room for Daddy series, I’m sure I’ve seen plenty of Sherry Jackson in other roles, but still opted to go for her most notable.

  1. I believe she was one who left the Make Room for Daddy series, was replaced as the same character, and then returned. Ala Lionel in the Jeffersons.
