So many sitcoms, so little time. Sigh. I mention this because I know it’s going to be quite some time before I ever getting around to viewing the sitcom Hazel, which ran for five seasons from 1961-1966. It will be even longer until I’d get to the fifth season of it, if in fact it ever gets released on DVD (the fourth is scheduled for later in 2012). Of interest in the aforementioned fifth and final season is that this was when Lynn Borden became a regular cast member.
I haven’t seen enough episodes of Hazel to be an expert, but I know the premise of the live-in maid Hazel taking care of the Baxter family, which included Don Defore and Whitney Blake. At the end of the fourth season, Hazel leaves the employ of this family (or rather, they move to the Middle East). Hazel then secures a job with Mr. Baxter’s younger brother and his wife Steve and his wife Barbara. Barbara = Lynn Borden.
Why all this interest in Lynn Borden, you ask? Well, because I met her of course. And I met her because she’s a sitcom star from Hazel. And I am the consummate sitcom collector. That’s all. It’s very simple.
By the way, Lynn Borden has also appeared in numerous other sitcom roles, ranging from meaty to miniscule, in shows such as My Three Sons, Family Affair, Get Smart, and The Dick Van Dyke Show. She also starred in a production of Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color in The Whiz Kid and the Mystery at Riverton.
And she was quite nice, posing for a free picture not only with me, but also my friend Ashleigh when I met her at the Hollywood Show on August 4, 2012. The mailman, the grocer, and even school kids know, it’s worth their while to stop and watch that smile.
Celebrity encounters from the Summer 2012 Hollywood Show will continue…
