Since I’ve been attending more and more celebrity shows that might be better classified as “Horror Conventions,” my appreciation and fondness of the genre has grown to the point that I’ve become more tuned in to picking up signed photos and engaging in celebrity encounters with actors and actresses from some of the more notable franchises. Whereas I had skipped plenty of these opportunities in the past, this year I’ve made them part of my want-lists going in. For example, I had passed up both Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton at shows in the past, but when I attended the Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror Convention on Sunday, August 12, 2012, this time they made the cut. No pun intended.
Danielle Harris was actually kind of a biggie in the Halloween franchise. As a pre-teen her first films included Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (seen at the top of the posting). In both films, she played the central protagonist Jamie Lloyd, who was the daughter of the Laurie Strode character (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the first two films. When it came time for the Rob Zombie re-tool of the franchise, Danielle was tapped to play a different role, that of Annie Brackett, a character originally introduced in the very first film. She would star in Zombie’s Halloween in 2007 and reprise her role in the sequel Halloween 2 in 2009.
Her other roles in recent years have been confined mostly to B-horror films, but as a child she made appearances in a few other blockbusters, namely City Slickers, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Free Willy, and The Last Boyscout. She was also a very sweet gal when I met her, offering a free photo op with a purchase of one of her photos, and posed in an endearing, flirty fashion. Quite the hottie, I must say. Not sure how I passed her up before…
Scout Taylor-Compton was just being born at the time that Danielle Harris was making her second Halloween flick. She wasn’t introduced to the franchise until the Zombie re-tool, but she was awarded the role of the central protagonist Laurie Strode (whose character was the mother of the character played by her older co-star Danielle Harris; don’t try to think about it too hard). She would play Laurie in Zombie’s versions of both Halloween and Halloween 2.
But as much as I was interested in the Halloween connection, I opted to buy one of her photos from The Runaways, a film regarded much more highly. She had portrayed rockstar Lita Ford – the real one of whom I had previously met. She too was awfully sweet and attractive, but as a girl that is only a year older than my daughter, I could see the rambunctiousness of youth sparkle in her eye. Nothing wrong with that. I hope to see many bright things in her future.
