Brad's Musings and Meanderings

random acts of quoting

"Inspector Smoky Bates, private eye for the public schools." - Norman Lamb, "It's Your Move"

img978.jpgI guess you could say that I have always taken great pride in my work. So I would guess that it was sometime around 1975 that I first learned to write my name – a feat that I wanted to proudly share with everyone. I also was probably told that it was good to put your name on things that were yours so that if they were lost, you could reclaim them. That is why I decided that I would put my name on every single item possible in my room.

And why not? It was all mine wasn’t it? This meant that I needed to christen not only my bed, dressers, and laundry hamper, but also each individual wall (all four of them) and the ceiling. I also marked each record, book, toy, and wall hanging. I do not recall messing much with my clothes – although if I had had a pen capable of marking fabric, I probably would have.

laddy.jpgFor some reason, I recall that my parents were rather upset by this declaration of ownership and I may have even been punished. At the time, I really couldn’t understand why.

This photo of our cat Laddy was mounted on a posterboard and hanging on my wall. As I worked my way along the posters on the walls and the walls themselves, this photo received a dose of my John Hancock, too.

More from 1975 later…
