davi1I realize that Robert Davi’s most notable role was that of drug lord Franz Sanchez in one of the lead roles in the Timothy Dalton James Bond film License to Kill. That’s also why he was present at the Hollywood Show on January 12, 2013 – as part of the James Bond reunion. But I couldn’t help but be more fascinated by the fact that he had been one of the Fratelli brothers who plagued the kids at every turn as the worked to find the hidden treasure in The Goonies. He was Jake, the toughest of the three.

He was also in a lot of TV dramas throughout the 1980’s, and has starred in quite a few other films I’ve seen: Die Hard, Cops and Robbersons, and Showgirls, for example.

Still I opted to go with The Goonies connection, and so that’s the photo that I purchased from him to have signed. He was charging $30 for the autograph / photo op but I somehow only paid $20…and I was even more glad that I got the deal after I later realized that he had signed the photo of The Goonies with his character name from License to Kill. Ugh. But on a better note, I did have some good conversation with him about the joys of Chik-fil-A, inspired by the t-shirt I opted to wear for that portion of the day. He’d never been there but always had wanted to. Needless to say, I recommended it highly.

He was a good guy to meet, despite almost always being a bad guy.
