I stayed blissfully out of the evening TV drama scene throughout the 90’s. I simply didn’t watch them, concentrating solely on sitcoms and movies. But there was one exception and it was a most pleasant one: Picket Fences. I faithfully recorded each and every episode of this amazing, entertaining show, and watched them and shared them with friends ad nauseum. I loved each and every character, and had a particular fondness for the red-hot red-headed character of Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart – played to perfection by equally attractive Lauren Holly.
Needless to say, I was shocked into ecstasy to find out that she would be making her first ever appearance at the Wizard World Comic Con on August 11, 2012. I’m sure that many in attendance knew her better from Dumb & Dumber, NCIS, or Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. But had they known her from Picket Fences, I have no doubt that they would be flocking around her. As it was, she somehow didn’t seem to have that massive of a crowd around her, which was all the nicer for me as neither I nor Dean (when he decided to get her as well) didn’t have to wait.
She was a sweet as can be, and even a bit shy about making her first appearance and not knowing what to expect. I of course told her how much I loved Picket Fences and how I had been thrilled to meet her co-star Holly Marie Combs earlier in the year (she was also attending this event as well). By Comic Con standards, her fee was quite reasonable was well, charging $30 for the autographed photo and $10 for a picture with her.
Meeting Lauren Holly was certainly one of the highlights of this show, not just in terms of her acting credentials, but also in terms of friendliness and a decent bargain.
Celebrities of the Chicago Wizard World Comic Con will continue…
And she was on All My Children
