day7.jpgWe were all feeling rather haggard come Wednesday morning, September 26. We had all spent Monday at Disney World and Denise, Aaron, Ashleigh, and I had returned and spent all day Tuesday there too. Mom and Bob babysat Adam all day, so I’m sure they were rather exhausted as well. I didn’t feel too shabby after assisting Aaron with his Epcot around-the-world-drinking spree. He, however, was mighty under the weather.

So we all spent a somewhat lazy morning at our Disney Pop Century resort. We hadn’t had much time to actually enjoy the complex, being so busy at the parks and all – with the exception of some late night dinners (and drinks) in the resort eatery. I wanted to get at least a few good photos of this cool place before we left and Denise wanted to take Adam for a brisk swim before we drove over to Daytona Beach to complete our vacation. Denise gave Aaron the edict to have everything loaded into the car before she returned from the pool.

A rare quiet moment in the Twister area. Everytime I tried to have a seat here to have a nice phone conversation with Jackie, someone came to play.

From the parking lot as we left – a nice view of the 1980’s decor at Pop Century

We were on the road by about 11:30am, stopping at Wendy’s (home of the Frosty) for lunch, and getting into Daytona Beach mid-afternoon. I mostly continued to enjoy my portable DVD player both on the ride over and once we checked in, watching some serious classics such as The New Adventures of Superman, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Happy Days, The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, and Will & Grace – a somewhat eclectic assortmant, I’ll give you that.

We checked into Mom and Bob’s Americano condominium and while some of us headed straight for the pool, I headed straight for the couch – to spend the afternoon in grand style, watching TV, napping, and snacking. I also wandered down to the lobby to catch up on email and website comments. Their browser and network connection was the worst in beach history.

Yaht, Denise, Aaron, Mom, and Bob (seated on a cooler) enjoy a nice spaghetti and sushi meal

Mom and the gang went shopping for the necessities – like cookies, sushi, and eggs. They then set at work preparing a great spaghetti dinner, which was ready at just the right time…as I awoke from a little soul-soothing nap. I needed a little break to forget about the Disney blisters on my little toes. After supper, we all played a pair of rousing games of Farkle. It is clear that Mom has now received the Farkle torch from Grandma Murphy. I’ve never seen such dumb luck at dice-rolling in all my life.

I was looking forward to having two days of R&R ahead of me in Daytona Beach, while sucking up the nostalgic ambiance of the Americano – which I had not visited since 2004.

Up next: Thursday’s antics in Daytona Beach…

  1. For the record, the car was loaded when Denise returned from the pool. Sure it took me an hour what with all the puking, but I got it done. I kept going past this Mexican housekeeper as I was going from the room to the car, and every time she gave me a look that was part sorrow, part disgust and part amusement.

  2. Yes, the car was loaded…except for the pillow of Mom’s we took along for the trip. That, unfortunately, was a Pop Century Resort (and hungover-Aaron) casualty.
