random acts of quoting

"It was so pitch, you couldn't see your hand behind your back." - Stan Laurel, "Atoll K"

short3Say the following quote to yourself: “You verrry funny, Dr. Jones.” If you are like me, there is only one possible voice that you can use when quoting this line that never actually appeared in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and it belongs to the character of Short Round, played by  Ke Huy Quan. Whether you found him hilarious or annoying is a matter of taste, but the film simply wouldn’t have been the same without him.

The only issue with getting a face-to-face meeting with him at the Hollywood Show on October 5, 2013, was which photo to choose. I’d say his role in the Indy film was more legendary, but meaning just to much to me personally was his role in the 1985 adventure yarn The Goonies, in which he portrayed Data – a very similar character, after which his acting career all but petered out.

Ultimately I chose to put forth my $25 on the Indiana Jones photo, with the reasoning that if I’d ever have a chance to get the cast to sign a Goonies photo, it would be at a reunion at which he’d be present again, and thus, I could obtain a full cast signed shot. I’m sure I overthought it, but in any case I’m happy with the autograph I chose.

He was nice enough to pose for a free photo with the purchase, and what’s more, pose for one with Carolyn as well. Hold on to your potatoes!
