maude2The fact that she was in a slew of horror films – The Fog, The Swamp Thing, Creepshow – (heck, she was even married to horror director John Carpenter for five years!), makes her an ideal guest for any of the myriad of horror shows cropping up all over the country. She was also in a batch of notable films such as Escape from New York (again, Carpenter), The Cannonball Run, and even the most recent Oscar winner, Argo. And she’d star as a guest in a plethora of TV shows from the 70’s to the present day. But with me it always came back to the sitcom.

Adrienne Barbeau appeared at the Chiller Theatre show on October 27, 2012, and I honed right in on the picture that I wanted her to sign. Even though I am not all that versed on the hit TV sitcom Maude, I have certainly seen a smattering of episodes and it’s on my radar should the TV series ever continue on DVD. Barbeau played a pretty major role, that of Maude’s divorced daughter Carol. Being a divorcee in itself made for a progressive TV character in 1974, but the fact that she was an outspoken liberal feminist helped contribute to the controversy of the show.

The actress herself was very nice and pleasant although we didn’t chat long. The nicest part was that she was charging just $20 for the signed photos and was willing to pose for a picture for free.

I always gravitate to sitcom history, and especially an iconic one like Maude. This was a nice addition to my collection.
