Being the doctor of psycho Psycho killer Norman Bates probably isn’t the most enviable or illustrious job that one might aspire to have. In fact it really didn’t turn out well at all for Dr. Bill Raymond (played by Robert Loggia) in the 1982 sequel to the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. He ended up getting stabbed and knocked down that famous flight of stairs that private detective Milton Arbogast tumbled down 22 years earlier.
Robert Loggia did an admirable job of being part of the Psycho legacy that I love. Even though Psycho II didn’t get anywhere near approaching the quality of the original, I still found it a very enjoyable film. So much so in fact that despite Loggia’s amazing list of credits that included such films as Lost Highway, Big, Prizzi’s Honor, The Greatest Story Ever Told, and Oscar nominated role in Jagged Edge, and Disney’s Elfego Baca series, I still went for the Psycho II photo when he appeared at the Chiller Theatre Show on April 28, 2012.
As far as our encounter, it was pleasant if not all that memorable. He was a bit hard of hearing, so the handler had to shout my request to have him add the film title to the photo with Anthony Perkins. The handler also cut me a bit of a deal to get this signed along with the comic book version of the short-lived TV series T.H.E. Cat that my friend Steve Cox sent along with me. The autographs ended up being $25 each and the photo op was free. It was well worth it.
