"What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?" - Taggart, "Blazing Saddles"

glov2I was quite pleased to hear that Danny Glover was going to be appearing at the Chiller Theatre Show that I was attending on October 27, 2012. It’s fun to be consistently surprised at which epic celebrities can be talked into coming out to these type of fan shows. Many of them come time and time again, so by the time you see them at the fifth show, they are as old hat as some friends that you see less than that! But for celebs like Danny Glover, one has to wonder if he’ll do a couple of shows and then that’s it; if you’ve missed him, you’ve missed him for good.

And it I didn’t want to miss this guy, who has entertained me consistently in the four Lethal Weapon movies, as well as films such as Angels in the Outfield, The Color Purple, Witness, The Royal Tennenbaums, Saw, Antz, Dreamgirls, Pure Luck, and Grand Canyon.

Fortunately, unlike his character Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon series, he’s not too old for this shit. But he was a little bit too old to remember how to spell his character’s name. He enventually got it right, but when I asked him to add it to his inscription (which must not be as common of a practice as one would think), he had to think about it awfully hard.

His prices were rather high – as I expected they would be – but certainly not as bad as they could have been. $45 got me the combo of the autographed photo and a photo op. The wait for him was quite reasonable as well. I’m not sure how others felt, but I think Danny Glover was as close to an A-list celebrity that Chiller has gotten, and I was pretty darn ecstatic to meet him.

  1. Glover wrote and starred in an episode of one of my favorite travel series, “Great Railway Journeys” — I deeply regret not asking him about that and don’t know how I could have forgotten.

  2. He had a hard time signing his own name when I saw him at the Hollywood Show. But was very nice and it was cool he did that show too!
