In the Winter of 2011, I was able to meet one-third of the Seaver family from the 1980’s sitcom Growing Pains. Two years later, I was able to tip my percentage to half of the cast. The date was April 20, 2013, and this time it was Jeremy Miller, who had played the part of Ben Seaver, who was peeking his head out to meet the public at the Hollywood Show in Los Angeles.
Miller is now in his mid-thirties and he hasn’t escaped the fate of many sitcom child actors in that his roles essentially dried up once he had graduated from the well-known series. By his legacy lives on in that show, plus the fact that he got to voice Linus Van Pelt in several Peanuts specials including Happy New Year, Charlie Brown!, Snoopy! The Musical, and This Is America, Charlie Brown.
But never fear, there isn’t even a hint of negativitiy in him, and I found him to be quite nice and friendly, even if his price was a bit inflated. It was $25 for the autograph and another $5 for a photo with him. But that was negligible and he posed for a free picture with Carolyn.
I had never met Jeremy Miller in the past, but after our encounter I actually saw him again exactly one week later. This time it was at the Chiller Theatre Show, and this time his TV sister Tracy Gold was present. This was perfect as it gave me the opportunity to have her her sign the (somewhat pixilated) cast shot that I had purchased from Jeremy.
She actually remember me this time, after having met her three times in the past. This time she was super-friendly and threw in a free photo op as if we were old friends.
Now I’ll be looking to add the other half of the Seaver clan – but unfortunately no Boner for me.
