loom2Back in November of 2012, I attended the Horrorhound event that pretty much put to shame any preceding reunion of the cast(s) of the Halloween film(s). By getting Jamie Lee Curtis herself, they pretty much put a period at the end of any attempts of topping that show. And along with Jamie Lee, there was a smattering of co-stars from the original film (many can be seen here), as well as the original Michael Myers himself – back when he was referred to as “The Shape.” But then again, there were a few key players missing. P.J. Soles was one, but she had a very good reason: she has already committed to attend the Days of the Dead show in Chicago as part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll High School reunion (which I also attended). And then there was Nancy Loomis…

I had no information except for hearsay, but I had heard that Nancy Loomis didn’t attend these autograph shows. That was a bummer for me, because at that point I needed only Loomis to complete my ‘girl trio’ of the characters of Laurie Strode, Annie Brackett, and Lynda van der Klok from the original Halloween film, as well as their ‘doppelgängers’ from the 2009 Rob Zombie remake.

But of course, I’m not going to be anti-climatic. This is all leading up to the fact that Nancy did in fact come out to sign autographs and I did finally catch up with her a little less than a year later when she appeared at the Scarefest in Lexington, Kentucky on September 15, 2013. At last I could complete my trio with Nancy, the first Annie Brackett.

The price was about as right as it could get: just $20 for a signed photo and a free photo op for both Carolyn and me. She was extremely nice and down-to-earth, and she told me that she had in fact done a few shows in the past. Carolyn asked her whether she had seen Jamie Lee Curtis lately, and the answer was yes, they did keep in touch. She even gave Carolyn a pointer on how to avoid blinking by not looking directly at the camera for photos. I found out later that she had been married to Tommy Lee Wallace who worked as production designer on the first Halloween and directed the third, and he of course was present at the big reunion. Not sure if that had anything to do with her absense or not.

But no matter, I was ecstatic to finally get a chance to meet Nancy Loomis (who only adopted that name for her film career, and actually goes by Nancy Kyes).
