"Next week we'll learn why cows look forward to giving milk!" - Mr. Olson, "Police Squad!"

oog1Sandy Claws huh? Ooooh, I’m really scared. If you just sang that out loud, chances are you might be as big of a fan of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas as I am. Every since its release I’ve been entranced by its macabre and comic nature, with the creative notion of Halloween and Christmas colliding as its impetus. All of the songs in the film are fantastic, but standing out further than any of the others is the rousing Oogie Boogie Song, sung by none other than the Oogie Boogie Man. But every rotting burlap sack needs and voice, and his was provided by Ken Page.

I wasn’t overly familiar with Mr. Page, although he can be seen in live action films such as Dreamgirls and I’ll Do Anything, as well as sitcoms Gimme a Break! and Family Matters, as well as the supernatural series Charmed. But he is best known for his voice, and one might recognize him as the voice of King Gator in All Dogs Go to Heaven. His Broadway credential are quite extensive as well.

But still it was the Nightmare connection that interested me, so that’s why I was excited to meet him at the Chicago Hollywood Show on September 7, 2013. He was a very friendly guy and was preparing a nice treat for the fans: signing the pictures in bold glowing green marker to match the fluorescent look of Oogie Boogie himself.

For $20, picking this one up was a no-brainer, and he included free photo ops for both Carolyn and me. I might just split a seam now if I don’t die laughing first.
