easter7.jpgThere was a lot of hullaballoo about this Easter being the earliest Easter since 1913 and the last since 2228 – the net of all that being that this was the earliest Easter we would ever see in our lifetimes. But the net of that was that I don’t think any of us were really ready for it yet. The weather was crummy, the frost and rain were still ever-present and none of us were in much of an egg-hiding mood. Actually I was – and was going to do so for Grace – but Jackie and I decided not to spend the day together. As you can see from the photo at left, I was the eggman.

Ashleigh had just arrived home late the night before from Myrtle Beach, a fresh, lethargic legal adult. She and I went through the motions of putting on our Sunday best (jeans and a polo shirt for me) and heading over to Diana’s about 1:30 on the afternoon of March 23, 2008.

Abby explains the effects of beer to Susan

There was no Easter egg hunt, and not much candy — but we did have lots of good food and drink. I’m always happy with ham. Bev did make a little candy package for Grace which I took home for her. There was also the usual fun family camraderie, but I spent the bulk of the time in the dining room area. I had forgotten my camera so didn’t make my usual sweep around Diana and Tom’s house in Bellbrook – the one we so frequently visited all of my life – to take many pictures with Mom’s camera.

Bob and his poppyseed cake: deeper than we think

Instead I played Yahtzee with Mom, Ashleigh, Susan, and Karen. The good news was that I won. And ate lots of chocolate brownie and poppyseed cake dessert. Darlene, Jan, Mom, and I tried to make some plans for Ashleigh’s graduation and exchanged notes on what she needed to do for her financial aid request for Sinclair Community College where she will be attending this Fall. Pretty soon, Ashleigh began picking at me that she was ready to go home.

And that was Easter 2008.

2008 will continue
