"You gentlemen aren't REALLY trying to kill my son, are you?" - Clara Thornhill, "North By Northwest"

crow3For many years, Rochelle Davis was one of the most enigmatic actresses in the business. After her starring role as Sarah in the 1994 film The Crow, she dropped out of film, out of the public eye, and kind of out of any sense of a normal life.  Even though The Crow was both commercially and critically wildly successful, it will always remain an notorious film due to the fact that Brandon Lee was accidentally killed while making it.

Rochelle Davis could have just as easily capitalized on the notoriety of the film and continued with her acting career, but instead she withdrew completely. Traumatized by the death of her co-star and friend, she ended up heading down the wrong path for many years. Fans clamored for information about her, wondering how this once-promising career could have so quickly folded and vanished.

It wasn’t until the late 2000’s that Rochelle Davis resurfaced, returning to her first film since 1994 in the 2009 film Hell House. About the same time, she began making some personal appearances at fan conventions, and I was lucky enough to catch her at the April 26, 2014 Chiller Theatre appearance in New Jersey.

Although I had seen The Crow not long after it was released, it’s not one that demanded repeated viewings for me, so I was just as satisfied to skip the autograph and just get a photo with her for $10.

She was a very nice woman, very forthcoming with her smoky voice and solid demeanor. She was kind enough to let Carolyn get a photo with her as well. I’m glad that her life seems to be moving in the right directions now. After all… it can’t rain all the time.
