I very seldom pass up the chance to meet a Disney celeb, and although the 1980’s saw the decline of quality live action films coming out of the studios, I’m a bit surprised at myself for passing up meeting Meredith Salenger when I had the chance at one of the Hollywood Shows back in the late 2000’s. Granted my criteria has somewhat loosened in more recent years, but any way you slice it, she would have been a cool person to meet.
That’s why when the chance came by again at the Indianapolis Days of the Dead event on June 27, 2015, I made sure I didn’t miss it. Her claim to fame was playing the title role in 1985 Disney flick The Journey of Natty Gann. But as I found out when we chatted, she actually had an interesting role, her first, which predated Natty. She was one of the uncredited orphans singing and dancing in the 1982 film version of Annie.
She went on to some other interesting roles, included one of the three teen leads of Dream a Little Dream (with those crazy Coreys). She also had a role in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and provided multiple voices for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. She even did a nod to her Natty roots by portraying Natalie Gann in the the reboot Race to Witch Mountain in 2009.
Being beautiful and nice also didn’t hurt my enjoyment of finally meeting her. I did opt to go the cheaper route and just get the photo with her instead of buying the autograph (the combo of which would have been $35). My cost was $20 and she was kind enough to also pose for a picture with Carolyn.
I won’t likely be skipping any Disney celebs again, and I’m thankful that I could make the journey to Indy to get this one.
