When Fat Albert overhears the other kids making fun of Suede because of his aroma, he suggests that instead of making fun of Suede, they should tell him that he smells bad. They wind up drawing straws and Fat Albert loses. Fat Albert hems and haws and tries to talk his way around the topic, using a broken-down car, and cat cleaning himself, and the odor that fish emit as analogies to broach the subject, but Suede misses the point entirely. Meanwhile, Suede finds out that Wanda Washington is having a party at her house, so he invites himself to join Albert and the gang as they head to the party. They all know that Wanda hasn’t invited him because he smells so bad. However, Suede thinks his invitation hasn’t arrived in the mail, and he wants to pretend he’s not at the party and then reveal himself to see Wanda’s ‘excited’ reaction. However, once he arrives, all of the girls start out avoiding him and then all start to leave one by one. Suede jokes that if he didn’t know better, he’d think that everyone is leaving on account of him. Russell blurts out that they all think he’s dirty as evidenced by his smell. Suede is dumbfounded and reacts angrily before storming off. Suede stays away from everybody for a few days, and then suddenly reappears with a girl on each arm. The boys all pair off and search for jobs, which they either find to be over their heads, or wind up making a bigger mess by covering Fat Albert in paint. Eventually, they win the money and send in for the novelties. The box later arrives, in which they find the novelty sample kit containing black and white Christmas cards, Revolutionary War soldiers, and Shetland hair pieces. The guys return to many of the houses where they previously did work to sell their new wares, but no one is interested in their junk. Rudy does some magic, Bill does a ventriloquist act with Dumb Donald as the dummy, and while the crowd is watching, Fat Albert passes around the novelties for sale. Unfortunately, the police show up to put a stop to them selling without a license or their permit to perform. The kids are hauled into City Hall along with Fat Albert’s father. The prosecutor doesn’t want to press charge but asks for their help to put a stop to the novelty company. He also shows them the shoddy bike they would’ve won had they sent in the money.
