  • 001. Pilot – 9/14/2011
    • Los Angeles couple Chris (Will Arnett) and Reagan Brinkley (Christina Applegate) have a baby after seven years of marriage. When Reagan returns to work as the producer of her best friend Ava Alexander’s (Maya Rudolph) talk show Ava, Chris decides to put his law firm work aside and be a stay-at-home father to their daughter Amy. Upon Reagan’s return to work, she is greeted with open arms and a kiss on the lips from Reagan’s assistant Missy (Jennifer Hall) because Ava has been a depressed slump while she was out, relegated to animal guests that are egged on by her co-host Calvin (Nick Cannon). Reagan suggests having everyone in the office go no a cleanse and then bringing in the nutritionist who created the drink. However, she soon finds out that the drink is causing renal failure and advises everyone to come off of it. Now without a guest, Reagan is forced to work on the night of her seven-year anniversary with Chris, who is struggling to get through the day-to-day activities like shopping and caring for Amy. He meets a surfer dude gamer friend who seems to be living a parallel life with Chris, so he spends his days talking to him frequently on his headset. After working, Reagan comes home in time for them to go out and celebrate their anniversary at bar with karaoke, flowing drinks, and the presence of Ava. The next morning they are nearly too hungover to take care of Amy, and it is made even worse when Ava stops by to ask Reagan to court a new guest that day. However this time Reagan tells her that she needs to spend the day with Chris and Amy, and although disappointed, Ava is understanding, leaving the family at home to work on their cussing around Amy. Matt Lauer appears as himself. Connie Sawyer appears as the shopper who Chris thinks is stalking him. 12/30/19

  • 002. Cool Neighbors – 9/21/19
    • When cool neighbors Trent (Adam Campbell) and Mila (Anahi Bustillos) move in next door, Chris and Reagan try to get a jump on impressing them by giving them a bottle of tequila after they see their nerdy neighbors Gene (Matt Braunger) and Terry Martin (Jean Villapique) give them a casserole. Although Chris pronounces ‘tequila’ wrong, it is enough to get an invite to the party they are throwing for the neighbors. However, since it is on a work night, Chris and Reagan make the excuse that hey are going to a secret Radiohead concert and sitting on the stage. They also attempt to update their Facebook pages so they will look cooler. On the night of the party, the music is blasting until midnight and keeping them and the baby up, so they decide to call the police and then go over to the party and pretend they’ve been there all evening. However when the cop (Matthew Jones) arrives, he is asked by Trent if they can keep the party going if they turn the music down. The cop says that he will call the complainer and ask, and naturally Chris’s phone rings. Chris and Reagan admit they called the cops because of their baby, and Trent and Mila understand because she is pregnant too. As the Brinkleys head home, the Martins overhear them making fun of them. Meanwhile Ava is upset when Amy seems to always cry for her, but is fine with Calvin. Missy deduces that Ava always needs to feel loved, so Ava buys Amy a wallet and change purse, but Amy still cries for her. Reagan ends up bringing Amy to work and then having Missy call her away, so that Ava can be alone with her. After a quick success, Ava is ready to give her back quickly. Mary Jo Smith is Ava’s fan Helen. Jill Matson-Sachoff is her other fan. 12/30/19

    • Despite Chris’s best efforts to make and enjoy a romantic dinner, Reagan continually comes home and changes out of her nice work clothes into sloppy comfortable attire. Chris turns to his friend Reed (Will Forte) for advice, and he suggests leading by example, so Chris begins working out and wearing tight pants to impress Reagan. She however gets offended by the suggestion, so shows up the next morning in ultra-fancy attire and makes Chris wear a jacket. Meanwhile, while on the air, Ava finds out that her ex-boyfriend, the famous singer Benjamin ‘B-Ro’ Roth (Jorma Taccone) is getting married. They had had a tempestuous relationship that often ended with fans taking videos of them in public fights. Ava blames Reagan for forcing them to break up, so Reagan arranges a meeting with them to prove that he will never change. However at first, it appears he has changed, as he now looks clean cut, joined a church, and works for charity. However he quickly reverts to his old ways and insults Ava, leading to another fan-filmed confrontation. When it is all said and done, Ava gives Reagan a gift of a thing, and advises her to make up with Chris, because despite his mistakes, he is one of the good ones. They take it to a dealer to trade in, and the dealer (Jeff Clarke) mistakes the for hippies who want to spend the night on the lot. They eventually convince him and he sells them a more conventional family van. Reagan becomes particularly upset by it, when she realizes that their neighbors the Martins have the exact same model. Meanwhile when Ava gets featured in an article naming her as a high school drop out, she wants to express more ‘gravitas’ in her interviews, so she invites on a guest named Matthew Taylor (Jim Piddock) who wrote a book called Default, The Collapse of American Economy. Ava tries her best to read it, but after several minutes heads out to party with Missy, winding up in Las Vegas. Chris agrees to explain the book’s concepts, but even he has trouble explaining the theories. Once Ava is on the air with Taylor, she is able to get out at least one intelligent quote, but then turns the topic to the bullying the author faced in high school, preferring to delve into more fluff thant ‘gravitas’. Chris shows up with the new van, re-painted to resemble the original van, with a tape deck installed. Reagan is impressed, especially when he tells her that the van is already packed for a trip to the beach. 4/5/20

When Nancy mentions that Beth’s family called to say she never made it home, then admits that the travel arrangements were her responsibility, Reagan finally admits that she was wrong in keeping her. TV star host Shayna Mund (Megan Mullally), who keeps stealing topics from Ava, the latest by having a Kung Fu Master (Simon Rhee), while Ava is planning to have Tai Kwan Do black belt Master Hu (Cary Mizobe). Ava doesn’t seem to be as upset, because she still has a soft spot for her since she plucked the overweight Shayna from her Oklahoma home, got her on a fitness program, then once she had lost weight, had her on the show as a regular in her cooking segments. Although Reagan tries to confront her, Shayna is incredibly friendly and offers to take the gals to dinner at Gjelina, an excusive restaurant that Reagan and Chris have been trying to get into for months. She calls Chris to tell him that she is being dragged to a ‘work thing’, but Chris doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, he had a mother named Laura (Emily Rutherford) over from his play group, and the two of them decided to watch the last episode of Friday Night Lights together, since her husband Gary (Damon Jones) hasn’t found time to watch it either. Once Reagan gets home, she is pumped to watch the episode finally, so Chris is forced to watch it a second time. When Reagan hears Chris and Laura laughing together on the phone, Ava convinces her she’d better stop in and meet the play group. At first Reagan is concerned when she thinks Laura is one of the gorgeous mothers named Charlotte (Jenn Korbee), but is then relieved when she meets the real Laura. They all agree to get together for dinner, during which Laura spills the beans about watching Friday Night Lights, infuriating Reagan. But then Chris finds out that she was actually at Gjelina’s having a great time instead of coming home, giving him ammunition as well, causing a very uncomfortable dinner with Laura and Gary. When Shayna steals yet another idea from Ava, who told her all of her upcoming plans while at dinner, Reagan once again confronts Shayna and calls her a thief and backstabber. Shayna makes up for it by showing up with Ava’s cooking segment with Fabian (Ivo Nandi), and expressing her appreciation for all the show did for her. However Ava is reluctant to host the auction, until Reagan guilts her by bringing Amy into the office and telling her how much her education will suffer if she doesn’t get into Little Nudge. Meanwhile, Chris’s brother Casey (Dean Winters) comes to Los Angeles to visit. Chris has always been in competition with Casey for everything from working out to their careers. Before they even get home, Chris lies about having quit his job to stay home with Amy. Reagan thinks the rivalry is ridiculous, and even more so when she hears a conversation Casey is having that indicates that he actually came to Los Angeles for a job interview… which he didn’t get. He admits to Reagan that he has been out of work for a year. She tries to convince him that he should be honest with Chris as well. Ava shows up to the auction drunk, but nevertheless is able to raise $100,000. Casey and Chris become two of the most die-hard competitors, but when Reagan notices them bidding, she takes away their bidding paddles and tells Ava to ignore their bids. She also insists that they finally share their life’s circumstances with each other. They do, and are quick to both be there to support and encourage each other. After the successful auction, Gail offers Reagan a Little Nudge Class of 2016 onesie, indicating that she will be accepted to the school, also asking Reagan to bring back some of her ‘other’ celebrity friends for events. Since Ava is useless in the kitchen, she feels like she made a gourmet meal when she feeds Kevin. He has had a hard day at work, where they also ran out of coffee filters so he could have no coffee, and is less than enthusiastic about the chili. This leads to a huge fight, causing Kevin to run across to Chris and Reagan’s house, followed by Ava, and they witness their huge fight. Reagan plans out a perfect traveling schedule for Amy, but they are stymied right away when the Pathway agent Sharon (Cheryl Francis Harrington) gives them seats apart on the plane. Then the security woman (Carla Renata) stop them for having too much liquid with the baby formula. When Reagan mentions that the baby is a ‘ticking time bomb’, they are forced to go to another agent (Dana L. Wilson) for the next level of security. Reagan starts to go over the top with her irritation, and Chris apologizes for her instead of sticking up for her, causing Reagan to get angry and call him out. Meanwhile, Ava and Kevin arrive at the wedding and feels some tension with the bride Amanda when Kevin mentions their song Baby, Baby Back It Up (Into My Face) when the ladies can’t agree on the true authorship of the song. When Ava and Kevin get to their room, their gift basket is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Alexander, causing him to question why everyone assumes they are married. He says that after his marriage, he never, never, ever wants to get married again. Although Ava had said the same thing – but with less ‘nevers’ – this statement upsets her. Kevin realizes that it upset her, and Ava admits that it may present a problem in their relationship. Reagan and Ava finally get on the plane, and immediately hear a flight attendant (Casey Strand) and a passenger (Gary Dubin) with some snide remarks about the crying Amy. Chris addresses everyone on the plane and tells them that they’d better be nice to his wife, and if they act cool, he’ll buy them all drinks. Reagan greatly appreciates the sentiment, then they take a photo of themselves acting as if they’re in the throes of the ‘mile high club’ to send to Jean and Terry… then actually close the bathroom door. At the wedding, Kevin comes in late and disrupts the wedding as Ava officiates. Chris does a toast using a Michael Keaton impersonation, and when nobody laughs, Reagan has his back and explains who he was doing. Ava and Kevin come to the agreement that they’ll never say never about marriage. Kevin talks Ava into performing Baby, Baby Back Up with Amanda. He takes Amy to the park where he runs into one of the regulars, a guy named Ned (Larry Dorf), who asks him to introduce him to Nancy. He is reluctant, but is once again a jellyfish and finally agrees. The party turns out to be a huge proportion of Gene and Terry’s relatives, many of who really get on their nerves by their rudeness. Then when Reagan realizes that Ava thinks that she is Amy’s godmother, thanks to Chris being scared to tell her that his sister is the godmother. He also makes it very clear to Gene and Terry that they will never do this again, but they just think he is joking. When it sounds like Amy says ‘Ava’, both Chris and Reagan tell her that that was her first word. Later, they sit out in the bounce house with Amy and tell her what a wonderful year it has been with her. Then they spot Ned and Nancy making out just outside the bounce house. • 018. New Boss – 3/1/2012
    • Ava is incredibly excited that motivational speaker Yvonne Encanto (Eve Best), who has bought the show Ava, will be coming to work with them. Ava isn’t quite as excited because she is still mourning that Kevin has moved away for a job in Idaho. In fact she had torn down the sign of realtor Bruce Lund. With their fifth anniversary show coming up, Reagan tries to get her focused on that and the work they will do with Yvonne. When she shows up, she is everything they hoped for, and even more impressive is that she seems to be enamored with them. However, after a brief introduction, she quickly turns them over to her assistant Luke Grandby (Steven Pasquale). He and Reagan butt heads right away, because he wants to review all of their ideas, and although he talks about the empowerment of women, it doesn’t seem to show in his actions. Meanwhile, Chris and Reed decide to try something manly and restore the motorcycle that Reed’s Uncle Wolf left him in his will. They have no idea where to start since they have no tools, so they go on a tool run, and end up buying leather jackets and pants. Gene happens by and asks to help, so they reluctantly allow him since he seems to know more about bikes that they do. Reagan starts to let her annoyance with Luke affect her home life when she sends him the giant word NO to his request for a brief from her. Luke retaliates by putting a giant NO on the requisition for her favorite coffee. Once the guys get the bike running, they are all scared to actually get on and ride it. Reed finally takes a chance, and immediately falls over. Reagan finally has a breakdown at work and calls home crying to Chris. He decides to exert his manhood, mount the bike, and ride it to the studio, where he gives Luke a piece of his mind. Luke doesn’t even flinch, but he tells Reagan how much he admires her for being one of the toughest people he’s ever met. He asks her to help him get Ava out of her downward spiral since she keeps crying over Kevin. She takes Ava over to Kevin’s house so that she can put up the old sign, just as Bruce Lund shows up with a new one. The fifth anniversary show is a success, and Yvonne text them a thumbs up. When Reagan leaves, she finds Chris outside, once again scared to get back on the motorcycle. They go home and attempt to make love, but Chris can’t get his leather off. After the meeting, both couples are awkward but manage to arrange a double date at the bowling alley. Meanwhile, Ava gets annoyed by Luke staying late at the office after he is dumped by his fiancé (Carlee Avers). When he sets up a meeting with a group of Southern affiliates in order to get their show moved to a 3pm slot in the South. Even though he wants to convince them that Ava has southern appeal, he doesn’t want her to go along and meet the guys Hoyt (Lyle Kanouse) and Ray (Jonathan Adams). Ava decides to crash their poker and game and manages to charm each and every one of them with her bawdy, drunken talk. She gets them give them the time slot they wanted, and then shows Luke that she’s not even really drunk. Reagan and Justin pair off at the bowling alley since they are both competitive, while Chris and Lawrence get along. Reagan level-jumps the gun and suggests a trip to Napa Valley, but Justin is quick to accept. The teams wind up betting on the game, but when Reagan loses, she calls out a technicality that occurred in the fifth frame. This leads to a fight between Reagan and Justin, causing Justin to storm out with Lawrence. Luke is impressed by Ava’s business acumen, and they celebrate by meeting for drink. When Luke starts to rub Ava’s shoulders, she storms out annoyed that he’s hitting on her. He later tells her that her fiancé works at the bar, and he has been obsessed by going there every night and staring at her, which is why he’s been trying to stay late at work. Ava tells him that he can stay at work and blast music all night if she stops going there to see his fiancé. Reagan and Chris run into Justin and Lawrence during the neighborhood watch, and they reconcile. Reagan and Chris invite them to bring their son Foster (Brock Spielman) over to their house for a get-together. They instantly regret it once they meet Foster, who behaves like a holy terror. They decide to tell them that they need to set boundaries for the child, and this causes another rift between them, and the guys storm out. Ava catches Luke going to the bar, so she gives him a ‘fake kiss’ in front of the fiancé. Ava tries to help Chris and Reagan out by bringing a couple named Jeff (Andrew McGinnis) and Tracy (Kristin Burke) over to their house, but unfortunately, it is bedtime for Chris and Reagan, and they are in their pajamas ready for sleep. 12/8/22
  • 020. Baby Fever – 3/15/2012
    • Chris, Reagan, Ava, and Luke all attend an event arranged by Yvonne called Little Pals, a mentoring program for kids on the street. Luke has been mentoring a young man named Javier (Mario Adila Jr.), and Ava is inspired to mentor a girl named Jamie (Sarah Gilman) but is disappointed when she finds that she seems to just have normal girl self-esteem issues, and nothing catastrophic. Yvonne herself doesn’t show up at the event, but it is obvious that Reagan and Luke are competing over her attention. Meanwhile, Chris gives away some of Ava’s old clothes to a mom in the park named Dawn (Kimberly Quinn), but when he takes a look at them, he immediately takes them back, deciding that he might want to have another baby. Yvonne calls Reagan to invite her to work hand-in-hand with her on one of her pet projects for the network. She also lets Reagan wear her fancy jacket and has a drink with her. Reagan is on cloud nine about the job but doesn’t have time to discuss another baby with Chris, which gets him upset. He creates a montage of Amy with other babies and brings it to show Reagan at work how much she needs a sibling. Reagan gets called away by Yvonne to go shoe shopping and for a workout, causing Luke to get more jealous. Then when Reagan calls her with Luke there, she blows her off, asks for her jacket back, and tells Luke and her to work up a funding plan for the new project. Ava wants to get rid of Jamie since she feels she doesn’t need her, but when they go out for coffee, Jamie confides how many of the other girls at school make her feel terrible about herself. While they are there, they encounter one of Jamie’s bullies Kylie (Gracie Dzienny) and her friends, who make fun of her. Ava comes to her rescue and rails the girls by telling them that they will all be failures later in life. Jamie then comes to her bullies’ defense and tells Ava that she is just jealous of them, then leaves with them to send mean texts to ‘bitches’… including Ava. Luke tells Reagan that Yvonee is messing with both of them, and that even though he knew she was messing with Reagan to mess with Luke’s head, it still messed with him. The net is that she wouldn’t be messing with them if she didn’t think they were special. When she gets home, she finds Chris has left a trail of Amy’s baby socks, photos, book, etc. which lead a trail to him wearing a fedora in the bathtub. She doesn’t go for it, and they get into an argument. Ava, who has entered the house without them knowing. intervenes and tells Chris that he should never doubt that he and Amy always come first to Reagan. She tells them both to slow down and enjoy what they have. Reagan and Chris start to get romantic, and Ava pontificates how she is like a big sister to them. • 021. Daddy Daughter Time – 3/22/2012
    • Lawyer Derrick backs out of doing his segment on Ava’s show, so Chris hints that he’d like to do it. Reagan has a lot of reluctance about recommending him, but Ava sticks him on anyway. When he gets on the show, he has a lot of trouble controlling his hand movements and keeps repeating the phrase “do the math” to the audience. Ava finds the segment an unmitigated disaster, but Reagan refuses to let her pull the plug on him since he worked and practiced so hard for the show. She gives him some gentle coaching on how to improve the major issues he had during his first appearance, and on his next appearances he does an outstanding job. Ava is so impressed that she wants him to work on the show full time. However, once they start working together, Chris begins to slowly drive Ava crazy, always in her face and making jokes, distracting her from her job. She winds up telling Ava that she needs to fire him, so she lets him go, telling him that Derrick has multiple sclerosis and needs to stay on the payroll in order to get the insurance. Chris feels noble for stepping aside, and Reagan tells him how great he was. However, she can’t lie to him, so she finally tells him that she asked Ava to fire him because she needed some space. He doesn’t understand why she had to tell him the truth, so she insists that he tell her something true. In order to get even, he tells her that he loves her more and more every day just to make her feel bad. Meanwhile, Ava’s father Marty Alexander (Henry Winkler), a white Jewish urban author, comes to visit her. She is very excited to see him… until he shows up with his current wife Linda (Jennifer Say Gan) and her two twin children Riley (Samantha Futerman) and Danny (Harrison Xu). When he arrives at the studio, he parks his Winnebego in Sharon Osbourne‘s (herself) spot, causing Sharon to take Ava’s spot, which leads to a fight between them. Ava is disappointed when Marty won’t do anything alone with her and always has his second family around. While visiting the studio, Ava has to eat crow and give Sharon her parking spot in order to get her to take a picture with the family. Eventually, she gets so frustrated that in exchange for keeping Chris on the show, she asks Reagan to tell her father to go home. When she tells Marty that Ava is extremely busy, he gets the hint and starts to head home. First however, he catches up with her at a taco stand and apologizes for being an absent father and admits that he always wants someone else around them so that he won’t have to face apologizing. However, he looks forward to a nice, long line for tacos. Benjamin Byron Davis is the man at the taco stand. Dedra McCord-Ware is the audience member. 5/25/23
  • 022. Letting Go – 3/29/2012
    • Reagan is excited to announce to Ava that she managed to book Stevie Nicks (herself) on her show. Meanwhile, Julian shows up again and brings Ava a tiny dog that he names Avian – a combination of their names – thinking that they can raise it together. Unfortunately, on its first night with Ava, it keeps her up all night after she winds up sleeping in the doggie bed with it. Chris is really doing well in his ‘old timers’ hockey league, generally carrying the games in their favor. A member of a younger team named Tim (D.C. Cody) asks Chris if he might be available to play on their team and he jumps at the chance. Amy is getting closer to walking and Reagan is becoming more and more protective, even getting thrown out of Kiddie Fun Town when she over-zealously protects Amy in the ball pit. Ava decides she needs to give up the dog so she forces Julian to take it. She then starts to get worried about what he will do with the dog, and when she finds that he’s paying two girls named Dani and Tandalaya to take care of it, she takes it back. After Chris’s first hockey game with the young guys, he’s incredibly sore and tries to hide it from Reagan. Later, when Reagan finds the patio door open and Amy is missing, she nearly has a nervous breakdown, but Chris sees her simply sitting behind the couch. She puts up gates all over the house, and in all of his soreness, Chris can’t get over them and falls down, injuring himself further. Reagan convinces him that his body is too old to keep doing this to himself, and he finally agrees. Since he can barely get off the floor, Reagan takes Amy to work with her. Ava is also so concerned about the dog that she takes the dog to the veterinarian (Rajni Kareer) because of its IBS and finds out that the dog’s anxiety may come from her own. When Stevie Nicks calls and asks for a meeting to discuss the show, they show up at her office with the baby and the dog. Reagan jokingly suggests that she join Ava and her singing a song on the show. Stevie senses that the baby and dog aren’t happy so she ends the meeting. Ava recognizes that she and the dog aren’t good for each other, so she returns him to Julian. Chris gets a call from Tim asking him to play again, so Chris goes. Reagan is furious and goes to get him, and while he publicly acts like he’s henpecked by an overbearing wife, he secretly thanks her for getting him out of it so that he can embrace the new phase in his life where he sticks with the old timers. Reagan also decides to stop being so over-protective of Amy… which becomes difficult when she finally takes her first steps… and walks out the door. Stevie Nicks does the show after all, and Reagan fantasizes about singing Edge of Seventeen with her. Joe Pacheco is Todd, one of the old timers. Joe DiMasso is Tim’s friend. 5/25/23
  • 023. Hey Jealousy – 4/5/2012
    • When Reagan has to go on a business trip with Luke, Chris gets jealous when they video conference and he finds out that Luke is in her room. Meanwhile, Ava is hosting a 10K for Literacy run, and Shayna Bund makes a challenge to Ave on air that she will finish before her. Shayna has been dieting for months, so Ava hires a trainer named Gideon Kirk (Fred Armisen) to train her for the next three days before the 10K. Chris chats with Reed and Terry about his jealousy, and Reed tells him how he had accused his ex-wife Sondra of cheating… and was right. Chris and Reed follow Reagan and Luke to a business meeting at a restaurant, and he sees Luke give her a gift, a snuff box that she had commented that she liked. When she gets home, he tells her that he’s sure that Luke has a crush on her and he forbids her from seeing him, a notion that she simply laughs at. She tells him to chill out and get rest for the 10K the next day, and then hears the snuff box ‘fall’ and break in the other room. Ava invites Shayna over to her house to have a truce and agree to set a good example for the kids. However, Ava then offers her stuffed clam jambalaya, while Shayna offers Ava Whispering Angel rosé wine. Furthermore, Ava brings over two silver-fox Asian men to party with. They are joined by Gideon, and they all party through the night, leaving them completely hungover and sick by the time of the 10K. Will is very passive aggressive with Luke at the 10K and stays on his tail the entire time. While grabbing drinks during the race, Chris accidentally pours Gatorade in his own face, which causes him to lose the race. Ava and Shayna can barely finish the race, but when they get near the end, they want to hide in the woods so that no one films them looking the way they do. Fortunately, Reagan has hidden hair and make-up accessories behind the outhouses, so they are able to cross the line with dignity. Reagan admits that she was very flattered by Chris’s jealousy, but when she and Chris see Luke’s attractive girlfriend kiss him after the race, Chris says it is laughable that he would cheat on her to go after Reagan. Later, Reagan apologizes to Luke for Chris’s behavior and admits that Chris thought that Luke had a crush on her. Luke finds this hilarious, but between the laughter, he has a very awkward and uncomfortable look on his face, causing them to both change the subject and talk about Daylight Savings Time. Reagan goes home and tells Chris that she believes Luke did have a crush on her after all. Chris is just happy that he was right about the crush. They both agree that they are very attractive people and that they need to de-sexualize themselves in order to keep others away from them. Carly Prince and Delaney Prince play the role of Amy. Jackson Gutierrez is the paramedic in the ambulance. Keith Burke is the race starter. Ken Narasaki is one of the silver fox Asians. 9/26/23
  • 024. The Proposals – 4/12/2012
    • While Chris and Reagan are out to eat with the Martins to celebrate their anniversary, they relate the story of their proposal much to the Martins’ disgust. Reagan had proposed to Chris while she was drunk at the bar while they were listening to the song Total Eclipse of the Heart. Privately, Chris remembers that he was actually getting ready to propose to her with a diamond ring that was made from Chris’s Gammy’s (Marion Ross) diamond earring, although Gammy has never liked Reagan and tries to buy her off to walk away from the marriage. With the ring needing a re-size, it has been slipping off Reagan’s finger, and later, she cannot locate the ring. Meanwhile, Ava, who is still reeling from the break-up with Kevin, calls Chris to tell him she thinks there is an intruder in her bushes. By the time he gets there, she has realized it was actually swim noodle. Nevertheless, she wants him to stay to kill a silverfish, fix the fan over her bed, and fix her humidifier so her dog doesn’t die from dry air. Regan begins hunting for her ring at the drugstore, in a ball pit at Funzone, and in the diaper disposal. Chris falls asleep at Ava’s, and when he wakes up, he walks in on Ava naked. Chris tells her that he can’t be her go-to man, so she starts to use Julian instead. Reagan gives up searching for the ring and goes to see Gammy at the Pine Meadow Retirement Community to ask for the other ring. She refuses to give it to her, so when she falls asleep, Reagan attempts to steal it. Gammy catches her in the act but realizes she must really love Chris to steal it, so she agrees to sell it to her for $250. Chris calls Kevin and convinces him to come see Ava, but Ava rejects him and throws him out. In response, Kevin goes line dancing aggressively. Julian shows up at the bar and tells Kevin that Ava really loves him, so Kevin decides to propose to her. Chris admits that he is the one who took the wedding ring to add a stone to it to represent Amy and plans to re-propose and ‘re-write’ history. He invites her to return to Rowan’s Pub, and she thinks this a good time to present the new ring and re-propose to him. After Julina brings Chris to see Ava at the Class bar, they return to her house and he proposes. She downs a couple glasses of wine and changes out of her cozies for the occasion. Over at Rowan’s, Reagan almost proposes again, but then notices Chris reaching into his pocket, and suddenly recalls that he was doing the same thing when she originally proposed to him. She retracts her ring and let him pop the question. He surprises her by having several singers acting like bar patrons begin singing Total Eclipse of the Heart, and then showing her the ring with the added stone. Ava and Kevin each get a text from Chris and Reagan with a photo of them celebrating the proposal. Ava and Kevin decide they’re not really ready for a marriage, but after Kevin kills a silverfish, they head off to the bedroom together. They then all meet up and party together. Jeffrey G. Barnett is the Funzone employee. Stephanie Gibson, Chris Prinzo, NRaca, Terron Brooks, Whitney Claire Kaufman, Kyle Dean Massey, and Sabrina Sloan are the singers. 9/26/23

SEASON 2

  • 025. Friendships & Partnerships – 9/20/2012
    • Chris and Reagan have decided to so some remodeling on their house, but Reagan isn’t too sure about the fact that they’ve chosen her brother Scott Chafin (Luka Jones) to do the work as she thinks he spreads himself too thin and will take too long. Meanwhile, Ava is hightailing it over to see Reagan because her show Ava has been cancelled. While Ava and Reagan are reeling from this news, Scott’s boss Chuck (Jack McGee) pulls half of the crew off of the Brinkley job, causing Chris to panic. While Chris and Scott go to run an errand with Amy, Chris decides to swing by his old law firm and tell his old boss Ted (Steve Gagnon) that he wants his old job. He is surprised to find out that they are still working on a case that Chris has been working on two years earlier just for the purpose of collecting more money from the client. When Chris tells Reagan that he’s gotten re-hired, Reagan decides that she’s like to stay home with Amy for a while. Ava is offended that Reagan doesn’t want to be her assistant for a while. When Ava gets an interview to do a morning segment on The Today Show, she stops by the house to get Chris’s opinion on her outfit, purposely leaving Reagan out of the loop. Reagan follows her to the interview and tries to get her to change her top since the one she is wearing will show up sheer under the lights. Chris talks Scott into standing up to his tyrannical boss Chuck, and to go into business with him instead. While Ava is playing with Amy at the park, Ava shows up and screams at Reagan to tell her that the interview was a disaster and that it is because Reagan threw her off her game by telling her about the blouse. They get into a big fight and decide to not only end their business relationship, but their friendship as well. Although Scott can’t seem to lay into his boss, he does manage to tell him that he is quitting. While Ava and Reagan are both at the old Ava set and offices to clean out their things, they start looking at old pictures and reminiscing, and then making up. They take a joy ride in their old golf cart around the studio until two security guards (Marcus Folmar, Nate Shelkey) stop them. When they get home, Chris has to tell Reagan that the bathroom isn’t finished yet, but her new jacuzzi is ready for her to get into. Chris also tells Reagan about quitting the law firm and going into business with Scott. He quickly gets her into the jacuzzi before she can react. Charlene de Guzma is the Today Show assistant. 1/26/24
  • 026. Home/Office – 9/27/2012
    • Reagan expresses concerns about Chris setting up his new business in their garage while she is upstairs trying to babysit Amy. Meanwhile, Ava and Reagan spot a guy named Walter (Sean Hayes), who was once Ava’s musical accompanist and to whom she once offered a job as leader of her house band then pulled the plug, playing a kid’s birthday party in the park as Cowboy Walt. She tries to get away without him seeing her, but when he calls her over, she has no choice but to chat with him… and accept an invitation to have coffee. Back home, Chris cannot help but go upstairs frequently to give Reagan advice on how to take care of Amy. She thinks that he is backseat parenting and gets annoyed. When their neighbor Justin’s barking dog Bouganinvillea make it hard to give Amy a nap, she wants to confront him about it, but Chris insists that it will disrupt the delicate ecosystem of the neighborhood. Walter asks Ava to join him in doing a radio jingle for Mattress Mart, and she feels so guilty that she reluctantly agrees. Reagan finally can’t stand the dog barking any longer, so she goes over to Justin’s house to confront him. When she mentions the dog, he tells her that he appreciates her offer to help raise money for the potluck fundraiser that Gene and Terry have organized. As Ava and Walter work with the sound engineer Bryce (Rene Gube) on the jingle, Ava starts to get more and more irritated when Walter forces her to do it his way. She finally gets so frustrated that she storms out of the session. When the dog keeps barking, Reagan goes outside to yell at Justin, but winds up locking herself outside while Amy is inside. She is forced to call Chris while he is working with a potential client, and while she is talking to him, she gets herself stuck in the bathroom window and drops her phone to the floor, where Amy deposits into the toilet. Ava shows up and finally helps her through. Reagan tells Ava that since her show first began no one ever said no to her, so Ava deduces that maybe she should start listening to people. She returns to the studio and apologizes for being such a pill when she doesn’t get her way. Walter agrees to give her a second chance and they record the jingle and nail it. Chris scrambles to get out of his meeting and get home, only to find that Reagan has already gotten inside, but couldn’t call because her phone was in the toilet. Chris and Reagan show up to the potluck for the dog “Bougie” with frozen dinners. Walter finally confronts Ava about how she threw him away and caused him to have to shift to doing birthday parties, and then throws her out. Reagan tells Chris that she’s not cut out to be a stay-at-home parent, but Chris blames Bougie for barking, screaming at the infertile dog during the party. Justin takes offense at him yelling at her, then tells Chris that he’s not zoned for the garage office. Chris tells him that he had better find a way to shut up the dog, just as Reagan is making up to Bougie. Chris lets loose on all of the neighbors with his grievances. Later that night, as they lie in bed shell-shocked about the outburst at Justin’s place, Chris decides to lease some office space. The dog starts barking outside. Kimberly Wallis is the birthday party mom. 1/27/24
  • 027. Swingers – 10/4/2012
    • While Chris and Reagan are eating dinner in front of the TV, the TV goes out and they are forced to eat at the table. Finding they have nothing to talk about, they press on uncomfortably through the meal. When Reagan tells this to Ava, she recommends that Reagan use note cards with conversation starters on them. This actually works, and as the two get drunk on wine over dinner, they talk more and more about things from their past. They wind up heading to the patio to make love outside, but when they hear Gene and Terry outside next door, Chris gets cold feet and abruptly ruins the evening. Meanwhile, Ava is trying to clear out her craft room, which is full of junk, to bring some of her Ava show memorabilia into the room. After successfully selling a yoga ball to a devastatingly beautiful girl named Charlie (Shantel Wislawski) by using Craigslist with Scott’s help, Ava decides to expand the sale to a full-fledged garage sale. She winds up meeting a woman named Linda Bargson-Harper (Rachel Dratch), who is Ava’s biggest fan. Inspired by how much Linda likes her, she decides to give away all of her Ava memorabilia, including the mug she was drinking form when she learned that she got the show. However, after Scott tells her that once the memory of the show isn’t so raw, she might want to have that mug, Ava decides to find Linda and try and get it back. Linda refuses to part with it, so Ava and Scott contemplate stealing it back from her. Ava ultimately has a change of heart and decides to use Linda’s business to have a new mug made, which features a picture of her and Scott holding the original mug. Chris tries to make up for the ruined night with Reagan, which has caused her to think that she and Chris are getting to be like a Waffle House couple who stare at each other while eating there, by enrolling them in trapeze lessons. They both go to the lesson with enthusiasm, as each one chickens out about actually making the jump. They both finally admit they are scared, but then Chris has a change of heart and jumps, only to become tangled in the trapeze and fall gently to the net. Reagan joins him there and they kiss passionately. They later test to see if Gene and Terry would be able to hear them in the backyard. Sean Whalen is the garage sale customer named Todd buying Ava’s crap. Greg Marcel is Glen with the Trapeze release. Sebastien Stella is Dan. Ryan Schneider is Ivan. Bruce French is the trapeze artist/husband. 6/14/24
  • 028. Jerry Duty – 10/11/2012
    • Chris and Reagan visit a bookstore where they enlist the help of the clerk Gail (Hope Levy) to help them find a book telling them how to handle the fact that Amy now wants to sleep in their bed. While there, they spot Chris’s old college roommate Jerry (Rob Huebel), whom Chris never particularly liked since he gets into all sorts of strange hobbies and then tells Chris how amazing everything surrounding it is. They are forced to accept an invitation to a barbecue party at his place. Meanwhile, Scott asks Reagan if he can host a sleepover party for his son Kyle (Quinn Friedman), and Reagan reluctantly agrees. Ava returns from yet another failed date when she realized how much she hated his laugh. Chris offers to take her to the barbecue since most of Jerry’s parties are mostly comprised of men. Scott offers Reagan some advice on how to get Amy back in her own bed, but she blows him off. However, when Chris tries his idea to put blankets in her bed that smell like them, it actually seems to work. When Reagan thanks Scott for the suggestion, which she is amazed to report worked, he gets offended that she always put him down all of his life and throws her out of the car when they are two houses away from arriving at her house. Reagan begins to feel bad about the way she has treated him, so she apologizes and pledges her support for Kyle’s party. Chris tries to introduce Ava to several men, but she quickly discards them for frivolous reasons like the size of one man’s watch, and the way a man named Jackson (Laird Macintosh) eats his chips. When Jerry starts to make fun of a fat girl that Chris dated in college, Chris decides he’s had enough and tells Jerry he is leaving. He admits to Jerry that he talks about college too much and that with all of Jerry’s passionate interests, they have nothing in common. Back at the party, Reagan tries to support Scott’s ideas like letting the kids sword fight, and then not watching them while they set off the sprinklers in the yard and all over their tents and sleeping bags. They then have to move the sleepover indoors. He tries to make s’mores but ends up burning the carpet. Ava tries to intervene, but the marshmallows still taste like artificial logs. Chris questions why she is being so easy-going, and she admits that he is a mess today because of how she always tries to put him down, and he tried to live up to her example. He tells it differently and says that Reagan’s life was actually a cautionary tale to him. Nevertheless, Reagan takes the kids outside the next morning and lets them play ‘scream tag’. When Chris asks Ava why she is so picky when it comes to men, she says she’s been waiting for her ‘Christopher’. Chris then has Reagan tell her about all of his imperfections so that Ava can set her bar considerably lower. Ava admits that there was in fact one man at the cookout who she liked… Jerry. They all wind up going out on a double date to watch some of Jerry’s favorite, yet quite terrible, jazz. Michael Leone and Brian Leone are the kids Sal and Richard at the kids’ party. Michael Cory Davis is the guy at the barbecue who has a girlfriend. Jason Williams is the guy at the party who isn’t a cop. 6/14/24
  • 029. Another Saturday Night – 10/18/2012
    • Whereas three years ago, Chris and Reagan were out partying at a Silversun Pickups (themselves) concert, now they are sitting at home trying to find something to eat in the freezer and winding up with breast milk. When they realize that their old babysitter Vanessa (Stephanie Allynne) is once again available after the couple for whom she was babysitting are getting divorced, they are quick to hire her so that they can once again enjoy a Saturday night out. Meanwhile. Scott tells Chris how he found out his ex-wife Connie is dating again, which is really bringing him down. Chris suggests that Vanessa might be a good match for him. Chris and Reagan go out to a bar the next Saturday, where they run into Jerry and Ava. Not only does Jerry annoy them, but Ava seems to be lying about what she likes just to impress him. When Ava can’t get a text response from Vanessa, they decide to go home and check on her. There they find Vanessa and Scott making out on the couch. Reagan is furious because this will now cut into Vanessa’s availability on Saturday nights. Chris and Reagan then see Gene and Terry’s babysitter Hilary (Dioni Michelle Collins) and are able to lure her away by tripling her babysitting fee. The next Saturday, they all go out to watch an Indian movie in a cemetery, where they also run into Ava and Jerry once again, but Ava is now telling Jerry what she likes and wants. Scott and Vanessa also show up, and Chris and Reagan are stuck between them making out and Ava and Jerry talking baby talk. When they get a text from Hilary indicating that she saw someone outside in the back yard, they rush home to check on them. Chris is ready to punce with his golf club, but it turns out to be Terry who just wants her babysitter back. Reagan admits that she broke the motherhood code and offers Hilary back to her. The next weekend, they hire a moody sixteen-year-old named Madison (Tiffany Ariany), who is more interested in her phone than listening to their instructions for the night. They decide there is no way they can go out and leave her with Amy. Scott shows up to pick them up and admits that Vanessa has broken it off with him. He offers to stay and watch Amy so that they can go out and see the Silversun Pickups again. They again meet up with Ava and Jerry, who are not constantly at each other’s throats as Ava bosses him around, rolls her eyes at him, and criticizes everything he does. Chris and Reagan think they are witnessing their demise as a couple, but Ava admits that he still turns her on. They start to feel sorry for Scott and decide to go back home to keep him company, but then decides to stay for a few songs. When Chris starts crowd surfing, and Reagan jumps on the stage and yells in the microphone, they are banned from the rock club by the security guard (Michael Shepperd). Chris also realizes that he’s lost his wallet and keys and feel cool about the chaos they’ve been part of, but they get in touch with Scott to come get them. When he arrives, they invite him to stay and enjoy the show so that they can go home with Amy. As Scott makes eyes with a pretty blonde, Ava is at the bar throwing a drink into Jerry’s face… and then kissing him passionately. 10/13/24
  • 030. Ma’am’d – 10/25/2012
    • Reagan stops by a coffee shop, and while ordering, she tries to show her hipness by professing her love for the band Yeasayer to the barista (Craig Frank), but as she is leaving, she slips and falls on her back. When folks help her up, the barista refers to her as ‘ma’am’. This causes a crisis of confidence with her age and appearance, and when she gets home, she tries to act sexy and seductive with Chris, but he is too busy editing a video of Amy on his computer. Meanwhile, Ava suddenly realizes that she may not be too popular with the neighbors when she notices that one of their WiFi named is FUava. Although she tells Walter that she thinks it is pronounced ‘fuava’, he points out that she’s better start making friends. With this in mind, she attends the next neighborhood meeting, coming in late with Walter and disrupting the proceedings as neighbor Nancy (Tymberlee Hill) tries to chair the meeting. She also finds out that for sure that FUava is in fact a dig at her by the elderly neighbor Wayne (Roger Burton), who has multiple grievances against her, as do all of the other neighbors as well. When they begin talking about putting together the neighborhood haunted house, Ava volunteers to do it at her house. Reagan continues to be annoyed by the fact that Chris keeps ignoring her while he is constantly taking videos of Amy. She tells him that he is never in the moment and can’t really enjoy her while always trying to film. She insists that he go a week without taking any pictures of her. This proves to be incredibly difficult, especially when he and Scott take her to a pumpkin patch along with Scott’s little boy Kyle. When Chris starts filming some secondary footage of the pumpkin patch to edit into his next video of Amy, a father (Billy Merritt) gets angry when Chris films his little boy. He takes the phone from Chris and throws it across the patch, shattering it. Ava and Walter work on decorating and haunting her house for the neighborhood, but Scott, who also lends a hand, notices that they are becoming a little too macabre for his tastes. Reagan has a dentist appointment, and when her goofy dentist Dr. Ernst Welborn (Tony Hale) keeps telling her how beautiful and bright her smile is, she uses it as an opportunity to schedule a follow-up wisdom teeth removal to try and make Chris jealous. However, when he sees how ridiculous and awkward Dr. Welborn is, Chris can only laugh. Reagan ends up with a swollen fact and can barely talk, which makes her even more angry at Chris. When she catches Chris trying to salvage the photos from his broken phone, she notices a selfie video that she accidentally took while trying to film Amy and realizes that Chris was checking out her butt during the entire film. He tells her how sexy he still finds her and apologizes for not being as attentive as he should be. His next video project is a video of all of the footage he had taken of Reagan’s butt, restoring her self-confidence. Ava’s haunted house winds up being so gruesome and inappropriate that she angers the neighbors all over again… except for Wayne, who thinks that she made a great effort and invites her over for Scotch. Ryann Turner is the neighbor who complains how Ava drives. Paul Anthony Mabon is Nancy’s husband. Ursula Burton is the neighbor who doesn’t like what Ava did to Elmo. Trevor J. Davis is the neighbor who doesn’t want his kids to see Saw. Alek Cole is the neighbor kid on the bike. 10/13/24
