sar4OK, there aren’t many gals who I’ve known in my life that would take too kindly to being strangled by me, as seen at left in a photo taken in early 2000. But Sarah Boian was obviously quite good-natured and good-humored. In fact, she was one of my very favorite people to work with. I began working in the front office with Sarah at the beginning of 1998 when I first transferred to the Kroger on Forrer Blvd. This store closed a month later and we were transferred to the new Dorothy Lane Store. For the next two years, I had the pleasure of working with Sarah in that store until I transferred to Xenia in 2000.

Also working at both of these Kettering stores was her boyfriend Jason Shivadecker. Over the two years I also became friends with him as well. These two were really the perfect couple, both incredibly nice, fun, and hilarious. Jason and Sarah would sometimes hang out with my wife Lisa and me and in fact, even helped us move into our house in Fairborn.

After Lisa and I split up and I moved into management, I rarely saw Sarah as she moved to the Whipp Road store. The last time that I had run into her was in 2004 when I was doing a visit to Whipp as a C.A.O. Coordinator. After she left that store, I lost contact with her for a while.

Sure enough, as we all do these days, Sarah – now married to Jason – turned up on Facebook and we were back in touch in 2008. It took a while before we were able to meet up because at the time she was getting ready to give birth to her second child. But soon enough, I was happy to get a visit from both Sarah and Jason on Friday, March 20, 2009. Although they came over to check out my old couch to see if Sarah wanted it for her work, they stayed for a couple hours and we were able to catch up and reminisce.

Jason and Sarah. Try and ignore the Christmas decorations still adorning my walls

There were lots of good stories, like the saga of “Burlap Bag” and of course, the times that I would call Sarah from the front office and she would answer the other phone in the office. I’d pretend to be a difficult customer and when I had nearly driven her to a mental breakdown, I’d reveal that it was me on the phone…standing behind her. Good friends like that just don’t grow on trees.

Me and Sarah. This photos was taken very close to the picture at the top of the page. Same door. Just sayin’

Jason and me

I’ll be waiting for my invite to Sarah and Jason’s place, where we can sit out on their front porch, drinking wine, and criticizing the neighbors.

2009 will continue

Continue to the next reunion
