"Now I forgot the safe words again. SAY 'EM!" - Carol, "Saturday Night Live"

img309.jpgMake no mistake, my life is not quite worthy of a biography… but I have always wanted to create a synopsis of important and interesting events from my life in some unknown format just for the sake of having some documentation available for later on down the road when I’m too old to remember anything. This is also a worthwhile endeavor simply for the sheer joy of recalling good times of the past.

There are two things I especially wanted to chronicle. I thought about actually doing two booklets and printing them up a while back, but that seemed much too difficult and would have invariably fallen by the wayside and never been completed. But with this journal, I can see myself actually doing it a little at a time and leaving myself the opportunity to edit it and add things to it.

Before I keep you in too much suspense, those two things are Vacations and Christmases – all of them. This may be of absolutely no interest to anyone but me, but I’m willing to accept that. Part of the fun of doing it is simply culling up the old memories and photos. And then they will be documented for all time (as long as the server doesn’t blow up).

Along the way, I’ll also be posting other memories and photos of everyday life and events that I can remember – starting with my birth (not that I remember that!). There may be no rhyme or reason or order of importance to the postings, but I’ll post things that are memorable or nostalgic to me. For instance, a picture of me playing with a chemistry set when I was seven years old would take priority over a photo of me drinking from my chemistry set two weeks ago.

camera1.JPGThe difficulty in doing any of this is recalling with any degree of accuracy when things occurred chronologically. When things happened will be of even less interest to you, but I find it important to be able to draw parallels from one event to other events that were going on at the time.

Sometimes I might remember when a vacation took place by what songs were playing on the radio on the way there. Sometimes I can find a date on the back of a photo. A few things even got recorded in some journals I was keeping at various times. Reconstructing all of this will be fun and challenging. I’ll give it a whirl.

  1. I used to eat cameras when I was a kid, too.
