wkAs I continue to check off my list of meeting cast members from the original Star Trek series, Walter Koenig, who portrayed Pavel Chekov, was the most recent in my short list of encounters. Although my first two meetings (with George Takei and Leonard Nimoy) fall into the category of ‘chance encounters,’ the one with Mr. Koenig was hardly out of this world. He was appearing, along with a host of other celebs, including some from more recent incarnations of Star Trek, at the Chiller Theatre show on Saturday, April 18, 2009.

I was a bit surprised that he wasn’t a bigger draw with a bigger crowd around him at the show. In fact, I was the only one who seemed interested at that particular time. Although I am not a huge Trekkie, I certainly understand its standing in the pop culture ranks. Regardless, I paid him the $20 for the nice signed color photo seen above, and he silently came out to pose for a picture with me afterward. I’m not even sure if he spoke English because he said nary a word.

Still, I was now more than halfway though the surviving major cast members. Now where’s that Shatner when you need him? And not for the music!
