"After viewing the situation from all sides, Mr. Laurel says that he is thoroughly reconciled to the fact that the moving picture industry is still in its infancy." - Radio announcer, "Me and My Pal"

ws2I am a Twilight Zone nut. Yes, I know…I am a nut about many things, but The Twilight Zone is one of my all-time favorites. I know, I have many all-time favorites. But we’re getting off the track here. Although my collection has never really advanced much along these lines, I had hoped to collect autographs from anyone I encountered who had starred in an episode of this great anthology series of the early 60’s. It is particularly nice to obtain such a signature on a photograph actually from the show.

One such encounter came at the Lone Pine Film Festival on October 11, 2008, when I met up with Warren Stevens. Although I wouldn’t have known his name or face instantly, it didn’t take me long to realize that he had played the lead role of Nate Bledsoe in episode 83 of the series,  Dead Man’s Shoes – concerning a bum who snatches a pair of shoes off of a dead hit man, only to become infused with the gangster’s personality.

Stevens’ other work included over 150 TV appearances in shows ranging from Alfred Hitchcock Presents to Gunsmoke to ER. Notable film appearances came by way of Forbidden Planet and The Barefoot Contessa with Humphrey Bogart. But no matter what he had appeared in, it was his role in The Twilight Zone that prompted me to shell out a $20 bill to purchase the signed photo below.

And he had no problem posing for the picture at the top of the posting. And he was wearing shoes.
