The Celebs of Clearwater ’90

clear11.jpgAs I mentioned before, with all that was going on in my personal life, I sort-of mindlessy drifted through the 1990 Sons of the Desert convention. I was not very hot and heavy into collecting autographs at the time – although I certainly did gather a few from the celebs in attendence. As it turned out, this convention included very few: only three. The 1990 Clearwater Sons Convention

clee.jpgThe 1990 Sons of the Desert Convention was held in fiery Clearwater, Florida in the dead center of the summer – Thursday, July 12 thru Sunday, July 15. When this convention rolled around, I had kind of drifted from the L&H ‘scene,’ having not attended any meetings of our local Springfield tent lately – mainly because Carl hadn’t had any. Yeah, Buddy…It’s Jon Petering!

jon.jpgI met Jon Petering shortly after first being hired at the Beavercreek Kroger on May 8, 1989. He had already been there for a couple of years at that point so he was comfortably seated near the top in seniority on the bagger schedule (second only to Ashok Sohal), working Monday thru Friday the 9am – 5pm shift. So during the school year, I usually only ran into him at the end of his shift. It wasn’t long before I took a liking to Jon. He loved to talk and pontificate on any number of subjects – often with brutal honesty and exuberant conviction.
