Valley Forge and Westward

Everyone familiar with my website knows that I am a sucker for a trip down memory lane. So when the opportunity presented itself to swing by for a visit to the site of the 1986 Valley Forge Sons of the Desert convention, I jumped at it. In fact, the fact that I was traveling with my friend Bob Satterfield was the icing on the cake, because it was here that I first met Bob. So we traveled from our last location in Perkasie, Pennsylvania and at about 9:00pm that night of Thursday, June 17, 2009, we pulled up the the hotel to behold the majesty of the memories of what once was. Tony Burton as Duke

Only three actors have appeared in all six of the films in the Rocky series: Sylvester Stallone, Burt Young, and Tony Burton. Burton, who began his career as a real-life boxer, played Tony “Duke” Evers in the films. He did such a great job in the series’ first entries as the trainer of Apollo Creed, that he eventually became Rocky’s trainer. His film career didn’t stretch too far outside of the Rocky series, but he did have appearances in such films as Assault on Precinct 13, The Toy, and Hook – as well as a slew of television roles. Okay, this was admittedly my own doing, but Jason almost killed me. I like a good slasher film as much as the next guy and the Friday the 13th franchise is no exception – so I was rather intrigued at the opportunity to meet the guy who played the hockey mask toting psycho killer the most times when he made an appearance at the Chiller Theatre Show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 18, 2009. Kane Hodder starred as Jason in four of the Friday the 13th films (parts XII – X) from 1988 – 2002. Read the rest of this entry »
