ab14.jpgOur last day in Daytona Beach came on Friday, September 28. We had all had a nice, full week and decided to round it out with our traditional visit to the Daytona Beach flea market after a quick breakfast in the room. There is seldom much here for me at hillbilly central, but I was able to pick up a stack of DVD’s to add to my ever-growing collection. And of course, I sampled the fruit and had a soft pretzel. We were back at the condo by early afternoon, so I plopped onto the couch, watched some more TV on DVD and ate lunch while the others swam. Read the rest of this entry »

The Cast of “Dennis the Menace”

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

dennis2.jpgI may not have ever seen one single solitary episode of Dennis the Menace in my entire life, but I certainly know an iconic television show when hear about it. That’s why I had no qualms about shelling out twenty bucks or so to have my friend Bob Satterfield pick me up the photo at left that had been signed by Jay North and Jeannie Russell – that is Dennis Mitchell and Margaret Wade from the classic series – when they were making a joint appearance at one of the Hollywood Collectors Shows. Meeting Jenna Bush (and the Brennamans)

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

jenna2.jpgMy batting average is 0 for 2 in getting a photo snapped with grandchildren of the Presidents this year. In August, I missed the chance to be photographed with John Tyler’s grandson Harrison, the owner of Tyler’s former estate, because he was on his way out of town. On November 28, 2007, I missed a photo op with Jenna Bush, granddaughter of former President George H.W. Bush, thanks to the inexcusable ineptitude of the guy standing in line behind me. To look at the bright side, at least I got to meet the lovely Jenna and get her autograph. Read the rest of this entry »

crab6.jpgThe laziness continued. There were only three distinct events which took place in my life on Thursday, September 27, 2007 and none were all that exciting on the surface. In between all of them was the standard laying around, munching on snacks, and watching TV shows on my little DVD player – ones that have been amply described in previous postings from this vacation. But these three occurrences will surely evoke fond memories of spending time with my family in Daytona Beach. Read the rest of this entry »

Our Visit With Mildred

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

mil3.jpgOn Tuesday morning, October 4, 2005, Jimmy and I awoke bright and early and headed from his home in San Pedro toward San Diego. The traffic was murder even at the early hour, but the destination made it all worthwhile. For it was here that Mildred Kornman resided. Mildred was the younger sister of Our Gang leading lady Mary Kornman and the daughter of Hal Roach still photographer Gene Kornman. She herself had starred in the silent Little Rascals series as a baby and grew up to be a stunning fashion model. Read the rest of this entry »
